Big one for anyone in Ireland or the UK weighing up a move to Australia: our director Sue Pember will be at The Relocation Expo at Croke Park in Dublin on Sunday 27 September.

It's a one-day event bringing together Australian employers, migration agents and relocation specialists under one roof, and Sue will be there for the part she knows best, the actual settling-in side of relocating. Not visa advice (that's what the migration agents on site are there for), but the practical stuff people don't always think to ask: what different cities and suburbs are actually like day to day, what to expect in the first few months, and what tends to catch families off guard.

Finding affordable housing is becoming one of the biggest challenges facing employees relocating to Australia.

A recent Guardian Australia article by Luca Ittimani reports that median apartment rents now consume more than half of a typical single worker’s take-home pay in every Australian capital city.

In Perth, the median apartment rent of approximately $669 per week would consume 61% of the take-home pay of someone earning a gross salary of $70,000.

Even for a sponsored employee earning around $79,500—the current Core Skills Income Threshold for new Subclass 482 Core Skills nominations—the median Perth apartment rent could consume approximately 55% of their estimated take-home pay.
