Recruitment doesn’t usually fall over at the start.
It tends to happen more quietly over the first few months.

The role looks right. The person is capable. But without clear expectations, regular check-ins and consistent leadership support, things can start to drift.

We often see that the difference isn’t the hire itself, it’s what happens once they’ve started.

That early period makes a big difference to how things settle long term.

Sometimes a closer look at those first few months explains more than expected.

Most HR tension doesn’t start with one issue.

It builds over time, usually at decision points:
What to tolerate
When to intervene
How quickly to act

When those decisions aren’t clear or consistent, pressure tends to show up later across the team.

We often see that earlier decisions, made with more clarity, make everything easier to manage over time.

Sometimes looking at how those early decisions are made changes what happens next.

Our team swapped the office for the AHRI VIC Conference this week.

Jacqui, Beth and Ryan spent the day immersed in all things people, leadership and the future of work, alongside a pretty impressive group of HR professionals.

There’s always a lot of insight at these events, but also something simpler: time to step back, think differently and connect with others in the industry.

Proud of the team for getting out there, learning and bringing that thinking back into what we do every day.

The Fair Work Commission has announced its 2026 Annual Wage Review decision.

A 4.75% increase will apply to the National Minimum Wage and minimum award pay rates, effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026.

The new minimum wage will be:
→ $26.44 per hour
→ $1004.90 per week

While this update happens each year, it often means changes behind the scenes, including payroll updates, award classifications and compliance.

For businesses across Australia, now is the time to review your setup ahead of July.

If you need support understanding what this means for your business, please reach out to your Envisage HR team.

People challenges rarely show up as just one issue.

A performance concern can point to a leadership gap.
A hiring decision can impact team dynamics and risk.
A workplace issue can quickly become something broader.

These challenges cut across your business, and when they’re handled in isolation, they often create more complexity later.

Taking a more considered, whole-of-business view makes it easier to navigate the situation and make confident decisions as you move forward.

A pattern we see quite often:
Strong intent when it comes to people - but without clear systems, outcomes can vary.

Different leaders approach things differently.
Expectations aren’t always consistent.
What works in one area doesn’t quite carry across the business.

It’s not usually about effort. It’s about clarity.

When there’s structure around people decisions, things tend to feel more aligned and easier to manage over time.

Sometimes a bit more clarity upfront makes a bigger difference than expected.

We attended Conversations That Matter 2026 in Geelong today and it’s one that stays with you.

Hearing from Nedd Brockmann and the Give Where You Live Foundation, a few things really stood out:
→ Get comfortable being uncomfortable
→ Homelessness continues to grow across our region
→ Many people experiencing it are also dealing with family violence
→ Thousands locally are without stable housing

The Home Truths Report is clear, this is something that requires a collective response.

Nedd’s message was simple and powerful:
it’s not about how far he runs, it’s about why he runs.

And his challenge to everyone in the room - get uncomfortable and do something for good.

It’s something that resonates strongly for Jodie, who is on the board of Lazarus Community Centre Geelong and sees the impact of these challenges firsthand:

Important conversations for our community and for all of us as local businesses.

Today is International HR Day. It's a chance to recognise the role HR plays behind the scenes in helping businesses run well.

At its best, HR isn’t just policies or processes.
It’s about helping leaders make better decisions around who they bring into the business, how they build capability, and how teams work together over time.

This year’s theme, “empower people to lead change”, is something we see every day.

As businesses grow and shift, having clarity around people decisions becomes even more important.

It’s a good reminder to pause and reflect on what’s working well and what might need to evolve.

If you’re starting to think differently about your team or your next stage of growth, it might be time to look at how everything connects.
