Friday, so here is how a job actually runs start to finish.

Mid clean on a Pomona array in this one, water still drying off across the glass.

Turn up, walk the property, have a look at access and roof pitch before anything comes off the van. Set up the water treatment so the supply is purified before it gets anywhere near the panels. Then it is panel by panel with a soft rotary brush on a telescopic pole, rinsing as we go. Check the gutter line and under the array for nests and debris while we are up there. Photos before and after. Pack up.

The water is what people ask about most. Your supply runs through a deionisation tank on site, which pulls out the dissolved minerals that cause spotting as water dries. That is why the panels get left to air dry rather than towelled off.

Cheers, Craig and Harvey

Here is the one nobody ever books. Solar hot water.

Tinbeerwah roof, and that is a Solahart collector before we cleaned it. Heavy reddish dirt right across the glass, tank sitting up above it.

People book their PV panels in without a second thought and then completely forget about the collector sitting a few metres away, even though it is doing a similar job. Sunlight through glass, heat into water. Anything sitting on that glass is in the way of it.

The red stuff is iron rich dust and roof run-off, common as anything through the hinterland, and it shows up plainly on a big unbroken pane like this.

Cleaned the same way as a panel. Soft brush, purified water, nothing abrasive and no harsh chemicals near the glazing or the seals.

If you have got hot water up there as well as panels, mention it when you book.

Cheers, Craig and Harvey

Your roof is probably not the colour you think it is.

This is a Doonan job, and that is our surface cleaner sitting on the sheets just after a pass. The solar array runs along the left of the frame, which is the other half of what we were there for.

Most people reckon a roof that has gone grey and streaky has just aged that way. Usually it has not. That grey is atmospheric grime, organic growth and run-off staining sitting on top of the coating. The sheeting underneath is still the colour it went on, and this is what it looks like once that layer comes off.

Worth knowing, Colorbond and painted steel get done with low pressure and a surface cleaner, not a high pressure lance. The coating is the bit protecting the steel, and stripping it off is a pricey way to end up with a clean roof.

Roofs, panels, gutters and house washing, all through Doonan and the hinterland.

This is the exact moment people come out of the house to have a look.

North Arm job, surface cleaner working across the panel, water running down the glass and a hard line between done and not done.

Whenever a customer is home, this is the bit that gets them out of the chair, and it is usually where the questions start. How long has it been like that. How often should we be doing it. Any chance you could do the roof while you are up there.

A finished array just looks like an array. The line is the proof. That is why before and after photos go out on every job whether anyone is home or not. Nobody should have to take our word for what was up there.

Nobody wakes up one morning and finds their panels looking like this.

Veteran, just out of Gympie, photographed the minute we pulled up. That is the van still in the background.

The reason arrays get to this point is that it happens a fraction at a time. Years of it. And because the change is so gradual, and because virtually nobody ever gets a look at their own roof, there is no point where it becomes obvious. Most owners are genuinely surprised when the photo comes through.

The Gympie region cops a particular mix. Humid summers that suit growth, dry spells that put dust in the air, acreage with gravel drives, and serious bird life anywhere near big trees.

Rough rule of thumb around here is every twelve to eighteen months, sooner if you have trees over the array.

Remember this one? Here it is finished.

Showed the before shot of this big Tewantin array a few weeks back, all dull film and dirt streaking. This is the same array, same angle, after.

The word that matters is even. Every panel across the array coming up the same is the whole point. A quick once over leaves variation across the glass, which is why we work panel by panel rather than hosing the lot and hoping for the best.

Salt air is a real factor on this side of the Shire too. Tewantin, Noosaville and Noosa Heads are close enough to the coast that fixings weather faster and frames stain sooner than they do inland, so coastal arrays generally want a clean more often than hinterland ones.

Same panel, same light, same photo. That is the bit that gets people.

Halfway through a Pomona job here. Brown stained wet section across the middle is what was sitting on the glass. The clear part is where the brush has been. Trees behind are where most of it came from in the first place.

Spring is the big one for this around the hinterland. Pollen and blossom coming down through September and October, fine dust lifting as things dry out. It lands on the glass, a bit of light rain sets it rather than rinsing it, and the whole array goes an even brown that you cannot pick from the ground because it creeps up on you.

Split shots like this are the honest version. Nothing to argue with.

Look past the panels for a second. The view behind them is the reason they look like that.

Doonan property, before we started. Weathered roof, soiled array, and all that beautiful hinterland rolling away behind it.

Hinterland blocks around Doonan and Cooroy have a few things in common. Big established trees close to the house, so there is leaf, bark, sap and bird traffic across the roof constantly. Gravel driveways putting fine dust in the air every time someone comes or goes. And a proper subtropical climate, so warmth and humidity let growth take hold on the roof sheeting and the panel frames.

Throw spring pollen on top and an array gets to this point inside a season or two, with nobody on the ground any the wiser.

Cheers, Craig and Harvey

Days like this one are why the hinterland run is the pick of the week.

Tinbeerwah, Brrokland Road, angled rows of panels all done and the tree line and blue sky sitting behind them. Finished this one and just stood there for a minute.

Frame mounted arrays in angled rows like these catch light beautifully. They also catch everything else going, driveway dust, spring pollen, leaf and bark off the gums along the fence line.

Cleaned with the pure water DI system, so the water is purified on site before it touches the glass and the panels dry clear instead of spotty. No detergents, nothing abrasive near the cells.

Tinbeerwah, Cooroy, Doonan, Tewantin, right through the hinterland.

That is Harvey, and that is a Friday afternoon out at Veteran.

Array behind him is done, sun is out, and that is about as good as the job gets.

Worth saying out loud every now and then. Eco Kleen Solar is the two of us. Craig and Harvey, every job, start to finish. No subcontractors, no crews you have never met rocking up to your place. Whoever quotes it is whoever does it.

Being on the tools every day is also how you spot the things that are not on the job sheet. Loose fixings, a bird nest tucked under the array, gutters packed solid. We find those because we are up there looking, not because anyone asked us to check.

Gympie, Veteran, Monkland, right through to Noosa and the hinterland.

Cheers, Craig and Harvey
