I have a couple of full days shoeing before I head off to Canada for the World Championship Blacksmiths Competition at Spruce Meadows, Calgary.
September 8-13 .
I forged my last practice shoe in The Frillneck Forge as I have to pack up my tools to take with.
Really looking forward to catching up with my fireman as well.
I want to thank my wonderful clients for allowing me the opportunity to go and compete.🙏

Less than two weeks before the World Championships at Spruce Meadows, Calgary Canada.
Overlapping the Showjumping Masters Competition.
It's a special place if you love horses.

How much fun is getting after life

All the shoes at the up coming World Championship are handmade. They are all made from a different set of hand tools to match the specimen shoes.
While practicing, I have forged some spare tools in case there is a mishap during the competition.
These fullers are for putting the groove in some of the shoes.
I hand forged them from air hardening tool steel.
Busy few weeks coming up ✌️

Under our care for a few years, this horse.
Mitchell did him all throughout his apprenticeship as he has a tricky conformation.
Unfortunately he changed his routine moving house a little while ago.
We now have an idea why he kept pulling my shoes at the new place. Pawing at wire.
Even pencil heels, of that expensive English concave barstock.
Them old vets can definitely stitch them up 🙏

Otis getting to be a shoe model for some of my practice . Working on different methods and techniques of the Concave Caulk and Wedge, which is one of the shoeing goes at the World Championships in Spruce Meadows in September.
He is a dressage horse, but his owner was happy for me to fit these then put his dancing shoes back on.

Public service announcement for my local clients and friends.
It's been really humid in the middle of the day this week.
Although still cold at sun up and sun down.
Your horses will get tight and show changes in their gate, if they become dehydrated.
It's great for me though, as their hooves are finally drying out ✌️🦘

Only four weeks left to get my ducks in a row and as much practice as I can for the 2026 World Championship Farrier and Blacksmiths Competition in Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Canada.
Held in conjunction with the Showjumping Masters Competition.
Many of the best horses and riders are on show from across the globe. Along with some of the best competition farriers from seventeen countries.

Everyone learns so many different things chasing the vacant title of World Champion for 2026.

This is just one of the classes run over a five day period.
It is a hunter style job. Designed to be fit really centre of heel to limit the horse overreaching and pulling off chasing fox hunting hounds over the hedges and fences.
It's called a Tooled and Fullered shoe with pencil heels. That shoe started as a piece of 16 mm square bar. It is far from perfect, although the fundamentals are there, or I would not have nailed it on .
Horse welfare is still the number one priority as always.

It's a hell of a journey and I can't wait to get there ✌️🦘

I have been forging a little in the afternoon for an upcoming competition.
I needed a new guide fuller for making a traditional type of shoe, so I made myself one from H13 steel.
It should last me until I finish competing hopefully 💪✌️
