Coffee Chat would like to show it's support for our daughter Janelle Savage who is competing in the "Stronger Together" women's Friday fight night this coming Friday 30th October at the Great Western, Rockhampton, CQ. This charity event has been organised to support families impacted by domestic and family violence. Are we listening to understand or just waiting for our turn to speak?

Experience can give us plenty to say. But it doesn’t tell us what matters most to the person sitting across from us.

Sometimes a pause and a simple “Have I got that right?” can make all the difference.

That’s what real conversations mean to us at Coffee Chat. Giving people room to speak, asking honest questions and taking the time to understand.

Did you know that your version of reality may be completely different from the person standing next to you…?

Why is this?

It comes down to how we interpret the information we receive. Our beliefs, life experiences, emotions and what we’ve been taught all influence the meaning we give to what happens around us.

Two people can experience the same situation and walk away with very different views.

One sees an opportunity. The other sees a risk.
One hears helpful feedback. The other hears criticism.
One sees a setback as a reason to stop. The other sees something to learn from.

The situation may be the same, but the meaning each person gives it can be very different.

That doesn’t mean the facts change depending on how we feel. It means our first interpretation may not be the whole picture.

This is where personal development can help—by encouraging us to pause, question our assumptions and consider another perspective.

Ask yourself: “Is this what’s happening, or is this the meaning I’m giving it?”

And when someone sees things differently, get curious. Listen. You don’t have to agree to make the effort to understand.

We can’t change everything that happens, but we can work on how we understand it and what we choose to do next.

Sometimes you just need to have a few days by the beach!
It was a long weekend so we made the most of it and took a 3 hour drive south to a Agnes Waters/1770.
Such a beautiful place (we will share more photos soon!) and the weather was just amazing.
