Congratulations to Stanley, WINNER of the People's Chioice award in the 2026 Tassie's Top Tourism Town Awards, with thanks to awards partner Bishopp and category sponsor Tourism Industry Council Tasmania!

A spectacular peninsula in Bass Strait boasts some of the cleanest air in the world. Nestled at the base of an ancient volcanic plug, lies the charming fishing village of Stanley in northwest Tasmania. Here, the hero is the ancient land itself – wild and rocky outcrops adorn stunning seascapes. Historic cottages create a picturesque frame around the town's two pristine beaches, and local residents include a fairy penguin colony. Stanley boasts world-class culinary delights, including freshly caught Tasmanian seafood, Cape Grim Beef and local artisan produce. A small haven that packs a powerful punch for making family memories.

⭐️BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS⭐️

The Annual Plan and Budget 2026/27 includes a new $2.1 million Community Recreation Fund to improve community recreation spaces across Circular Head.

The fund will support two exciting projects:
✅ West Esplanade, Smithton
✅ Kings Park Playground, Stanley

By delivering both projects together, Council can achieve better value through shared planning, purchasing and project delivery, while making real progress this year.

Community engagement has already helped shape the long-term vision for West Esplanade through the Foreshore Park Master Plan. The master plan provides the overall direction for the site, with the detailed designs continuing to evolve as the project progresses.

For the Kings Park Playground, we won't be deciding what the playground should look like on our own. We'll be working with students from Stanley Primary School to hear their ideas and help shape a playground that reflects what local children and families want.

Please see our website for details on both of these projects and to find out what we are doing right now to get these projects moving.

Stanley’s fishing port has been at the heart of the town for almost 200 years? ⚓️

Since the early days of settlement, the harbour has played a vital role in connecting this remote corner of Tasmania to the rest of the world. A port was established in 1827, and today Stanley remains the main fishing port on Tasmania’s north-west coast.

From crayfish and octopus boats heading out into Bass Strait to anglers lining the wharf during fishing season, the docks are still a working part of daily life and a reminder of Stanley’s rich maritime heritage.

One of the best places to take it all in? From the top of The Nut. As you make your way around the summit circuit, you’ll be treated to spectacular views overlooking the harbour, fishing fleet and Stanley township below - a unique perspective on a port that continues to shape the town today. 🌊🐟
