Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

September 30, 2026, marks the 14th anniversary of Orange Shirt Day and the 6th annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours the children who never returned home, the survivors of residential schools, and their families. It reminds us all to listen, learn, and act.

In Burnaby, we acknowledge that we are on the shared, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Peoples. Each Nation has distinct histories and distinct traditional territories that fully or partially encompass the city.
