Big news — and a very happy moment for me today. 💚

After seven years, the original Eco-Train website has officially been retired, and I just got to see the brand new Eco-Train legacy site built by the amazing team at Nirvana Canada.

It looks incredible.

Even more meaningful: Nirvana has committed to keeping the site live and supported long after I’m gone. Knowing that Eco-Train will continue to do good in the world brings me a deep sense of peace and gratitude.

And here’s the best part…

👉 Eco-Train is now FREE for retailers to register and participate.

No cost. No excuses. Just an easy way for businesses to divert waste responsibly and be part of real environmental action.

It feels especially good to share some positive sustainability news right before Christmas — a time when generosity and care for the planet really matter.

Heading into year 5 of the Material Recovery program, I'm excited to announce that over 1 million phone cases have been recovered in Canada. The program was made possible through a collaborative effort with multiple wireless accessory brands, distributors and retailers taking responsibility for the products they make and sell.

The Material Recovery program provides an easy way for consumers to return unwanted wireless accessories to Eco-Train for upcycling and recycling.

All materials collected are received, sorted and upcycled by PLAEX Building Systems or recycled by (EPRA) Electronic Products Recycling Association.

Guess if Princess Kate officially announced she has cancer today, so can I.

Yep, no joke. I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer seven weeks ago. I’ve been very blessed to spend a bunch of time with family and close friends recently as I prepare myself physically and mentally for six months of chemo and abdominal surgery later this year.

The IV port was inserted into my chest a few days ago. All preliminary tests and prep work are done. I’m ready for the call any day now to begin treatment. Thank you BC Cancer and the several doctors involved for expediting my case so quickly. I have nothing but positive things to say about BC health care and BC Cancer in particular. They are a finely tuned machine. For that, I am super grateful.

I also want thank each of you that found out sooner and reached out to me offering love, support and well wishes. Your friendship means the world to me!

I’m feeling strong and confident that I will kick its ass. Just a minor flesh wound. Let’s go, let’s go!

Just finished sorting through the most recent returns sent to Hitfar for the Eco-Train program. This is approximately 5,000 lbs of unwanted electronics and phone cases collected by retail partners in western Canada over the last four months.

To date we have collectively eliminated 75,000+ lbs of consumer waste from entering the environment in landfills across Canada.

Electronic products collected through the Phone Case Recovery Program are sent to the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) in Canada.

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’.

The organization is focused on reducing unnecessary waste and/or environmental impact through effective management of retiring electronic and IT equipment. As a non-profit organization with deep community roots, it is their “reuse” focus and donation activities that set them apart from others in this sector.

The ERA believes that “reuse” where ever possible is the most ecological approach to this growing stream, and an excellent way to compel real community goodwill at the same time. With depots throughout Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and all of Canada. ERA provides a great way to recycle electronic equipment safely and securely.
