Grant funding is a big deal, but it can also come with some unknowns and strict requirements.

Timelines are fixed. Reporting is real. And sometimes you need to move before everything is fully figured out.

We've been there with a lot of our clients — non-profits, public sector teams, growing tech companies — and we've picked up a thing or two about making grant-funded projects actually work.

Our latest blog covers all of this from someone who has seen her fair share of grant-funded projects — Catherine Plante, our Business Development Lead.

Whether you've just secured a grant or you're still exploring your options, hope there's something useful in here for you. 👇

Grant funded projects aren’t always straightforward. Learn how we can help you navigate grant parameters for technology development.

We're proud to be a sponsor of Upper Bound 2026 — one of Canada's premier AI conferences.

We work with organizations navigating the fast-moving world of AI and emerging technology, helping teams cut through the noise, identify real opportunities, and build practical solutions that drive meaningful results. Upper Bound is exactly the kind of space where important conversations happen, connecting with thinkers, builders, and decision-makers shaping the future of AI. We're excited to be part of it.

If you're attending, we'd love to connect.

We have a new case study up: partnering with the BC Métis Federation to help preserve the Michif language.

We built a mobile app with ~1,000 audio pronunciations and offline access, so community members, elders, and youth can connect with their language wherever they are.

Minimum Viable Product (MVP) project builds are not a half-built product, a prototype, or “getting a bike when you paid for a car.”

In our latest blog we break down what MVP is and is not, how it differs from scope, and why building MVP-first means you catch expensive surprises early, find out what truly matters, and validate before budget or time is gone.

If you pay for a car, you get a car. Link in bio.

Three websites. One member portal. 20+ years of data. We went all in for Sport and Social Club, rebuilding Edmonton Sport & Social Club, Calgary Sport & Social Club (CSSC), and launching the brand new GoPlay Edmonton youth sports division from the ground up.

It was a big, complex project and one our team is really proud of. With a 62% reduction in registration time, the result is a better experience for new players, existing members, team captains, and parents alike.

Getting certified to teach in Canada is a major hurdle for internationally educated teachers — every province has its own rules, timelines, and paperwork.

We partnered with the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada to simplify the process. Pathways to Teach Canada is now a single, streamlined portal where internationally educated teachers can manage their entire certification journey, including assessments, documents, payments, and more. This website and portal development project included 4 third-party integrations, simplifying the user journey into one space. Built for real people navigating a complicated process. One platform. Coast to coast.

We're heading to Hamilton for SEMM Conference 2026!

Paper Leaf is presenting alongside Shane Riczu from the University of Alberta. Our session "Clearing the Path: Reducing Website Barriers to Program Exploration" is all about the student decision-making journey. For many prospective students, your website is their first and most important step in deciding where to study. We'll share what actually works: making program info more searchable and engaging, guiding students toward programs that match their interests, and tackling real challenges like internal buy-in and resource constraints.

Send us a message if you'll be there or want to learn more about our presentation.

While the industry average for women in tech still sits well below 30%, we’re proud to say that 21 of our 38 team members are women. That is about 55% of our staff. From creating code to leading business development, the impact is everywhere.

In honor of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, we’re passing the mic to the incredible women behind the work. We sat down with the team to talk shop, inspiration, and what they’d tell their younger selves.
Get to know Catherine, Mariam, Siham, Anne, and Lindsay on the blog:
