One small act of kindness changed the course of my life - and led me here, 20 years later.
(This was me 20 years ago - just starting out, full of hope, and supported by someone who believed I was meant for more.)
I was working in a restaurant, saving every dollar to write my provincial exams.
There was a gentleman who worked in the same building. He would frequently stop in for lunch and always ask me about my future plans.
One day, in a completely unexpected gesture - with no ties, no expectation - he paid for my exams because he believed in me.
That quiet act of generosity set the stage for everything that followed.
Over the years, I’ve met the most extraordinary people through this work:
•The ones who trusted me during their battles with cancer.
•The ones who shared their life stories - their heartbreak, their joy, their wisdom.
•The ones who bravely placed their trauma in my hands.
•The clients who were with me before kids - and during pregnancies - who checked in on me and even sent food when I was expecting.
•The ones who have shared experiences with my family in small, meaningful ways.
•The ones who encourage me to teach and grow, even when self-doubt or anxiety creeps in.
•And the ones who still drive once a year to catch up since I moved my practice.
You have shaped me.
This has never just been a job. It has been connection, trust, vulnerability, and community.
Every story shared, every tear shed, every laugh exchanged - I carry them all with me.
The greatest gift of these 20 years hasn’t been the career - it’s been the people. ❤️
