What scent can you almost smell through this painting? ☀️🐄

Constantin Gabriël loved depicting the Dutch landscape in all its colour and vibrant life. “Our country is not grey, not even in grey weather”, he once wrote. You feel that in this summery scene of a mill among the meadows. Gabriël preferred warm summer days with bright green grass and clear blue skies. Moments when sunlight seems to embrace everything and the land comes fully alive. Thanks to the reflection in the water, this painting even gives us a 'double summer'.

Welke geur ruik je bijna door dit schilderij heen? ☀️🐄

Constantin Gabriël hield ervan om het Nederlandse landschap in al zijn kleur en volle levendigheid te schilderen. “Ons land is niet grijs, zelfs niet bij grijs weer”, schreef hij eens. Dat voel je in dit zomerse tafereel van een molen tussen de weilanden. Gabriël schilderde het liefst warme zomerdagen met felgroen gras en helderblauwe luchten. Waar het zonlicht alles omarmt en het landschap volop tot leven komt. In dit schilderij zien we dankzij de weerspiegeling in het water zelfs een ‘dubbele zomer’.
