The Canadian Diamond Drilling Association is proud to announce this year’s 2027 Convention Keynote Speaker, Chris Wilson.

Chris Wilson is a leadership keynote speaker, former commercial helicopter pilot, and aircraft maintenance engineer who helps leaders and teams create momentum through change, pressure, and uncertainty.

After 14 years in commercial aviation including work supporting remote diamond-drilling operations, Chris now brings those lessons from high-consequence environments into practical leadership frameworks for organizations across Canada and the United States.

Drawing on 14 years in commercial aviation, including direct experience supporting remote diamond-drilling operations. Chris brings a perspective that is highly relevant to our industry.

The keynote will be tailored around CDDA’s three pillars:

Strengthening judgment, communication, personal responsibility, and awareness when the stakes are high.

👉️Standards
Maintaining discipline and ex*****on even when pressure, familiarity, or changing conditions create complacency.

The Canadian Diamond Drilling Association is pleased to have Chris Drenth as Chair of our next Virtual Monthly Safety Meeting on Thursday, November 12.

Chris brings more than three decades of experience in engineering, product development, and innovation leadership. A key contributor to Boart Longyear’s Performance Tooling portfolio and named in more than 40 patent families, he has helped advance drilling technologies that balance safety, productivity, and operational performance.

Through engineering leadership roles in Canada and the United States, Chris has guided teams, mentored emerging talent, and developed solutions for global mineral exploration and production drilling.

Join Chris and fellow members for an open discussion centred on safety experiences, questions, and lessons from the field. These meetings provide an opportunity to share knowledge and support continuous learning across our industry.

The Global Exploration Drilling Standard Working Group have developed a draft and are seeking your feedback.

The Global Exploration Drilling Standard is an industry-supported initiative to define a common minimum baseline of critical controls and performance expectations for exploration drilling activities that present fatality, permanent disability or life-altering injury potential.

The standard will be outcome-based, technology-neutral and globally applicable. It will define what must be achieved to control critical risks, while allowing mining companies, exploration companies, drilling contractors and OEMs to determine the most appropriate method or technology for their operating context.

The initial scope is intentionally limited to exploration drilling. This keeps the first deliverable achievable, avoids scope creep, and provides a foundation for future expansion if the industry chooses to address additional drilling disciplines in later phases.

The CDDA is proud to partner with the and to offer the Introduction to Surface Diamond Driller program.

This program is designed to provide participants with a strong foundation in the surface diamond drilling industry. Participants gain practical knowledge of drilling operations, equipment, safety procedures, and field practices while developing the skills required for entry-level employment opportunities in the mining and drilling sectors.

Program Length: The length of the program will be determined based on the number of students enrolled. The program will include 3.5 days of field training, with daily hours from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Depending on enrollment, the program duration may vary, with a maximum length of 17 days.

Credentials Earned: Canadore College Certificate, MiHR Certificate, CDDA Mental Health Certificate.

Cost per Student: $5,500, plus applicable taxes (includes all materials)
