I haven't rested in years. 6 to be exact.
Building, bootstrapping, and the endless lived clichés of entrepreneurship that turn out to be true. Silently, you know them too.
My 50th was back in April. My sister surprised me and flew in on her broom 🫣😊. She knew I'd been struggling without me saying anything. Honestly, I've been struggling for a long time. It's just getting harder to hide now. After our tears and hug, she said, "When was the last time you had fun?"
I used to say I never sacrificed anything to get here because I was chasing my calling. I know better now. Reaching your "defined success" takes 4,535 different experiences of assembling and disassembling yourself...sometimes twice in the same day. The experts call this a pivot.
Ever wonder why there's so much BS out there about what it takes to build (and keep) a successful business without losing yourself? It's because saying it out loud is terrifying. Some days I wish I were stupid, oblivious, that I couldn't spot a solution from across the room or sniff out BS faster than a truffle pig. Then maybe my brain would finally slow down.
Here's what I've noticed through all of it.
No matter your age, gender, environment, upbringing, we all have our "in-between." AKA: make a decision or stay miserable. The craziest part? The two places on either side of it - riding off into the sunset to be "average," or going all in - are a simple thought away.
BIG WORK is a constant.
Simple, but not easy.
