🔥 Throwback Thursday — Video 3: E-Bike Battery Safety

🚲⚡ E-bikes are convenient, powerful — and they need to be charged safely.
E-bike lithium-ion batteries can pose a serious fire risk if they’re damaged, improperly charged or used with the wrong equipment.

Keep these safety tips in mind:
• Use the charger designed for your e-bike and battery
• Charge on a hard, flat surface away from anything that can burn
• Don’t charge near exits or anywhere that could block your escape
• Stop using a battery that is swollen, damaged, unusually hot or giving off an odour
• Never modify, open or attempt to repair a damaged battery yourself

🔥 Throwback Thursday — Video 1: EV Battery Fire Safety

Lithium-ion batteries don’t stop at phones and laptops — they’re powering our vehicles too.

Electric and plug-in vehicles use large lithium-ion battery systems. While they’re designed with extensive safety features, a battery that has been damaged, overheated or involved in a collision can present a serious fire risk.

If your electric vehicle has been damaged:
• Watch for smoke, unusual heat, strange odours or hissing sounds
• Move away from the vehicle if you suspect a battery problem
• Call 9-1-1 if there is smoke or fire
• Never attempt to handle or repair a damaged high-voltage battery yourself
• Have the vehicle inspected by a qualified professional after a collision or significant impact

🔥 Fire Prevention Week 2026 – Video 2 🔥

🔋 Fully charged? Time to unplug.

Leaving a device plugged in after it has reached a full charge can increase heat and put unnecessary stress on the battery.

Once your phone, tablet, laptop, power bank or other rechargeable device is fully charged, unplug it.

It’s a simple habit that can help reduce the risk of overheating, fires, and battery problems.

⚡ Charge it.
🔋 Fill it.
🔌 Unplug it.

Full means finished.

🔥 Fire Prevention Week 2026 – Video 1 🔥

⚡ Charge smart. Start with the surface.

When charging phones, tablets, laptops, power banks and other rechargeable devices, place them on a hard, flat surface where heat can escape safely.

Avoid charging devices on:
• Beds
• Couches
• Pillows
• Blankets
• Other soft or combustible surfaces

Soft materials can trap heat around a charging device and may increase the risk of overheating or fire.

A countertop, desk or table is a much safer choice.

This Fire Prevention Week, remember:
Hard. Flat. Safe.

🔥 Fire Prevention Week is October 4–10, 2026! 🔥

This year’s theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”

From cell phones and laptops to power tools, e-bikes, scooters and toys, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries have become part of everyday life. They’re incredibly useful—but damaged batteries, incorrect chargers and unsafe charging practices can create a serious fire risk.

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, The Super Squad will be sharing simple tips to help you safely buy, charge, use and dispose of lithium-ion batteries and the devices they power.

A few small changes in the way we charge our devices can make a big difference.

⚡ Use the correct charger for your device
⚡ Charge devices on hard, stable surfaces
⚡ Keep batteries and devices away from heat
⚡ Watch for swelling, unusual heat, odours or damage
⚡ Never put lithium-ion batteries in household garbage or regular recycling
