It's National AccessAbility Week!

AccessAbility Week highlights the contributions of persons with disabilities in Canada, the work that's being done to make Canada a kinder and more accessible place, and the steps we each need to take in contributing to that work.

Our communities are stronger when we all work together to make them more accessible, inclusive, and equitable! In keeping with this year's theme of "Building a Strong, Accessible Canada" we'll be highlighting a number of resources where you can learn more about how we can all contribute to making Canada more accessible at https://linktr.ee/prairiewildco.

Today is the National Day of awareness and remembrance for the Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people. This day serves as a dedicated reminder of the ongoing crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people resulting from colonization and a systemic failure to protect the most vulnerable members of our communities.

Indigenous women, girls, and gender diverse people in Canada continue to be at a disproportionately high risk of physical and sexual violence. On this day, and every day, we encourage everyone to learn more about this ongoing crisis and do what you can to raise awareness and advocate for a better future.

For those looking to start their learning journey, or for those who want to learn more, we have included links to several resources in at linktr.ee/prairiewildco.

Tomorrow is the National Day of awareness and remembrance for the Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people (MMIWG2S), also known as Red Dress Day.

To recognize and raise awareness of the ongoing crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people, we encourage everyone to wear red, inform yourself about MMIWG2S+, and participate in events commemorating the day in your communities.

Some of the Red Dress Day events happening in Saskatoon include:
The Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) Integrated Wellness and Health Centre Teams will be hosting a Missing & Murdered Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit Awareness BBQ from 11:30am to 2:00pm at 1515 20th Street West.

The Saskatoon Police Service Victim Services Unit will also be hosting events throughout the City in collaboration with community partners.

Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was an American-born Canadian urbanologist, journalist, author, theorist, and activist. Her first book, The Death and Life of Great American Cities (1961), challenged the ideas of modernist city planning and offered a new vision of diverse cities made for and by the people who live in them.

Jane’s Walk is a movement of free, volunteer-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs. It encourages people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.

This year, Jane’s Walk events will be held May 1st through the 3rd across Saskatoon! For more details on events happening this weekend, visit www.janeswalkyxe.org or check out on Instagram and Facebook!

From community planning and housing initiatives to reconciliation-focused projects and strategic visioning, we’re honoured to support meaningful work across the Prairies and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us into your conversations, shared your knowledge, and helped shape projects rooted in connection, sustainability, and community well-being.

Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on December 10 — the day on which the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Human rights belong to everyone, everywhere, simply by virtue of being human. They transcend race, gender, nationality, or beliefs, ensuring inherent equality and dignity for all.

Violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world. Globally, almost one in three women have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life.
