About us/ cool facts – maybe not needed
Standard Auto Wreckers has been serving Ontario since 1979.
The company started on just 11 acres in Scarborough and grew into a multi-location operation across Ontario.
It’s a family-owned business that has grown across generations. Founder Ken Gold started the company, and today David Gold helps lead it.
What many people call a “junkyard” is actually part of a massive automotive recycling industry that helps reduce waste and keep usable parts on the road.
Standard has locations in Scarborough, Port Hope, and Ottawa.
The company has grown from 3 employees to more than 100 team members.
Standard operates one of the GTA’s well-known self-serve auto recycling yards, where customers can pull their own parts.
Recycled auto parts help save:
• money for drivers
• raw materials
• manufacturing energy
• usable vehicle components from ending up as waste
Standard has worked with local fire departments and auto extrication teams for rescue training exercises.
They’ve also been recognized for community involvement and environmental initiatives in Port Hope.
Some customers visit auto wreckers almost like treasure hunting — enthusiasts have found rare wheels, discontinued trim pieces, engines, vintage parts, and hidden gems.
Auto recycling yards are often where project cars get “saved” because someone finds the exact hard-to-find part they need.
Standard helps keep older vehicles alive by supplying parts that manufacturers may no longer produce.
Many people don’t realize modern auto recyclers inventory vehicles digitally and can often locate parts quickly across networks.
Enthusiasts sometimes spend hours walking self-serve yards looking for rare or nostalgic vehicles — it’s part parts hunt, part automotive museum.
