THE STRUCTURE OF SPACE

At first glance, Günther Förg’s works may appear deceptively simple as colour, form and repitition take centre stage. Yet within these reduced compositions lies a complex exploration of space.

Working across painting, photography, sculpture, installation and printmaking, Förg repeatedly returned to serial structures, architectural references and bold fields of colour.

Rather than depicting a specific subject, his works invite us to experience colour and form as autonomous elements, shifting our attention towards the physical presence of the image itself.

As a key figure of post-war German art, Günther Förg (1952 – 2013) exhibited internationally and taught at the academies in Karlsruhe and Munich.

In our UPCOMING SEPTEMBER AUCTION, these works by Förg are presented in:

LOT 477
Three works from the Paris Series, 2000

Three colour lithographs, each 60 x 49,5 cm, framed under passe-partout and glass, unopened.

BECHER BUILDINGS

Bernd and Hilla Becher transformed industrial architecture into a landmark of 20th-century photography. Their systematic, typological approach to subjects such as winding towers, gas tanks and other industrial structures became synonymous with the Düsseldorf School.

The winding towers as well as the serial industrial photographs will be exclusively presented in our UPCOMING AUCTION on 26th September. Together, the works offer a compelling insight into the Bechers’ rigorous visual language, in which the characteristic forms of industrial structures are brought into focus, revealing the sculptural qualities of functional architecture.

Bernd and Hilla Becher’s influential work was presented at major international exhibitions, including multiple editions of documenta. Their teaching and artistic practice in Düsseldorf also shaped a generation of influential photographers, including Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth and Candida Höfer.

BACK ON TRACK

After four weeks of summer closure, we are delighted to be back in our office, sharing this wonderful work by one of the leading landscape painters of Northern Germany, Paul Müller-Kämpf (1861–1941).

In his painting „Übergang zum Bodden“, Müller-Kämpf captures a quiet path framed by trees, with light and shadow creating a particularly atmospheric sense of depth and space.

Müller-Kämpf studied at the academies in Düsseldorf and Karlsruhe and, until 1888, in the master class of Hans Fredrik Gude in Berlin.
In 1889, he founded the artists’ colony in Ahrenshoop, which soon attracted numerous painters. He was appointed professor in 1906.

His landscapes of the Baltic region were already highly successful during his lifetime and today Müller-Kämpf is regarded as one of the leading landscape painters of the region.
His works are held in collections including the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Kunsthalle Kiel.

We look forward to an exciting new season and to sharing many more upcoming highlights of our September auction with you!

STRAIGHT OUT OF A MOVIE

A striking example of Andy Warhol's iconic mixed-media practice, „The Kiss“ transforms a cinematic close-up into a sculptural object.
Using a silkscreen print mounted on Plexiglas, Warhol captures the intimacy and glamour of a film-strip moment with his unmistakable Pop Art aesthetic.
The base is embossed with Warhol's signature and edition number. This work is numbered from an edition of just 75, underscoring its rarity and collectability.
