The music in your favorite indie film? Probably licensed for less than the price of a meal.

The sound effects? Recorded by someone else, legally cleared.

The VFX? Pre-made packs used by editors worldwide.

The gap between what you can make and what gets into festivals has never been smaller.
The tools that make it possible are now on Renderyard Tools: music, SFX, VFX, and scene packs built for filmmakers at every level. 🎬

Before Maggie Gyllenhaal judges Venice, look at the film she made. 🎬

The Lost Daughter is messy, intimate, uncomfortable, and never gives you easy answers.

And that might tell us something about the filmmaker now leading the Venice jury.

Complex characters. Quiet emotions. Stories that stay with you.

We can't know exactly what she'll choose this year… but we're very curious to find out. 👀

What do you think makes a film worthy of the Golden Lion?

Save this for Venice season & follow for more film stories, filmmaking insights, and indie cinema. 🎞️

September 2022: Venice gave Brendan Fraser a standing ovation.

March 2023: Hollywood gave him an Oscar. 🏆

After The Whale premiered at the Venice Film Festival, Brendan Fraser's emotional standing ovation became the beginning of one of awards season's most memorable comeback stories.

And his journey is part of a much bigger pattern.

Venice has become one of the first major stops on the road to the Oscars. From The Shape of Water and Nomadland to Poor Things, films that made waves, or won the Golden Lion, in Venice have gone on to find major success at the Academy Awards.

Of course, winning the Golden Lion doesn't guarantee an Oscar.

But when Venice starts talking about a film?

History says you might want to pay attention.

The best cinematographers in history would have used an iPhone if that's all they had, so why don’t you?

The camera doesn’t make the filmmaker. The eye does. 🎥

If the great cinematographers of cinema history only had an iPhone, they would still find a way to tell the story, shape the light, and create something unforgettable.

Your next great shot might not need better gear. It might just need a better idea.

What would you shoot if you had to use only the camera you already have? 👇

Finished your film? Now comes the part nobody talks about. 🎬
