Another big week. Behind the scenes at the BMW PGA Championship.

What spectators see during tournament week is the shop window. Behind it sits months of work. At EGD, we build and develop the 3D environment, incorporate the tournament infrastructure and turn a huge staging operation into a suite of clear, accurate maps.

From the Championship Village and player facilities to accessibility, transport, spectator routes and contractor movements, every map starts with the same detailed model of Wentworth before being developed for its own specific purpose.

Wentworth is a particularly special venue for us. It is home to our parent company, the European Tour Group, and European Golf Design has also been part of the design team working on the golf course itself.

Our involvement therefore stretches from golf course design to tournament visualisation and event mapping, bringing together our knowledge of the course with the operational detail required to help deliver one of the DP World Tour’s biggest weeks.

A big week for EGD maps. 🗺️⛳

Our event maps are on show this week at two of the biggest events in the golfing calendar - the 2026 Solheim Cup at Bernardus Golf and the Amgen Irish Open at The K Club.

Two very different venues, each requiring detailed planning to bring together everything from spectator movement and facilities to hospitality, transport and tournament operations.

Great to see the work out there and playing its part in another big week of tournament golf.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to host our friends and clients from our wonderful La Grande Mare project at JCB Golf and Country Club. From the left, Course Manager Richard Hamilton, Managing Director Ben Stimson, Owner Steve Lansdown and...me!

The obligatory Tee 17 photo was special for me on this occasion as I followed up with a sandy birdie, holing a bunker shot from the beach behind the green. Anyone making a birdie on 17 is invited into a secret vault in the clubhouse and presented with a commemorative ball marker. I’d only heard rumours of such, but now proudly possess this rare accolade.

Happy to partner the boss to victory in a good humoured and competitive match. A good day was had by all.
