We’re delighted to have been instructed to sell part of Allan and Kathleen Scott’s collection. Allan has had such an extraordinary and varied career, from screenwriter and producer to his years as a whisky executive at The Macallan, and the collection really reflects that interesting life and their shared eye for unusual and characterful pieces. It has been a real pleasure working with them, and we’re very much looking forward to the sale.

Silver, Jewellery & Vertu Auction | Now Available to Browse & Bid Online

September’s silver auction has a good selection of silver vesta cases from a variety of properties. There is also a collection of silver-bladed mother-of-pearl folding fruit knives offered in multiple lots which make good, affordable collectables. We also have a number of pieces of Asian silver in the sale, which are always highly sought after.
A particular lot of interest is a Scottish Georgian oval silver teapot (Lot 1156) which still survives with its stand, an impressive thing for any collectors of Georgian silver.
The jewellery auction offers a wide range of antique and modern pieces with an attractive selection of rings and brooches in particular. One of my favourite lots is a pair of diamond and blue zircon pendant earrings (Lot 1596), blue zircon’s are a popular gemstone at the moment and these earrings boast stones of good colour and quality.

Specialist’s Pick!

Our Works of Art specialist Pippa Green has chosen Lot 109 as her favourite item in our upcoming Antiques & Interiors Auction, here’s what she has to say about it:

“ This Dutch japanned grocery shop diorama is very intriguing and acts as a literal window into a store from the 1900s. It displays everyday essentials, down to tea, biscuits and even porridge oats.
It was possibly made by the Dutch specialist japanning business Wed. J. Bekkers & Son, founded in 1824 and recorded into the early 20th Century. The details are replete with lithographed advertising logos, some picked out in gilt lettering.”
