U-values come up a lot when we talk about window performance, but the number only helps if you know what it means.

Put simply, the lower the U-value, the better the window is at reducing heat loss.

Our uPVC windows can achieve U-values as low as 0.8 W/m²K, which gives specifiers and project teams a clear performance figure to consider when energy efficiency is part of the brief.

Of course, no project comes down to one number. But when you’re comparing window performance, it is a useful place to start.

Quality control at Shelforce is exact. Every window and door checked twice, logged and initialled before it goes anywhere.

When we talk about FD30 fire doors, the “30” refers to the period of fire resistance the doorset is designed and tested to provide.

But the rating is only one part of the picture. The doorset still needs to be right for the building, the location and the fire strategy behind the project.

Except a fire door on its own is just a piece of timber or composite. What actually gives you 30 or 60 minutes of protection is the whole doorset working together: frame, hinges, self-closer, intumescent seals, hardware, all factory-tested as one unit.

Swap out one part or install it separately and that rating means nothing.
