Another selection of fire door sets replaced last week across our managed portfolio of North London schools, as part of the ongoing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme.

The latest works included a combination of veneered and laminated door sets, all factory-hung, certified and supplied with Q-Mark / BM TRADA manufacturing and installation records.

The installations comprised both FD30S and FD60S fire door sets, with a combination of single-action and dual-action configurations, tailored to maintain the same function as the existing door set.

We continue to place a strong emphasis on quality, compliance and traceability, with QR codes linked to the relevant ongoing records for each installation, providing our clients with easy access to the information they need.

Our decoration team have also attended site to complete the architraves and finishing works, ensuring each installation is handed over complete, professionally finished and ready for use.

It is important to us that every aspect of the process is managed and delivered to the same high standard, from the initial specification and manufacture through to installation, finishing and ongoing record keeping

Year 3 Fire Door Replacement & Maintenance Project Update – West Suffolk College

We are pleased to have completed our third year working alongside our fantastic client at West Suffolk College, as part of a wider programme supporting their estate.

Following our initial inspections almost four years ago, a clear plan was developed to upgrade a number of fire doors throughout the college complex. We have now completed the final replacement door sets within the original programme, bringing the total number of door sets replaced since 2023 to an impressive 288.

This summer marked the final phase of the initial replacement programme, with a further 92 door sets replaced.

All replacement door sets were supplied by Youngs Doors, with each set factory-hung, factory-painted and Q-Mark certified, providing full certification and traceability throughout. We have also had the pleasure of replacing 3 steel final exit door sets supplied by Strongdor.

We have also welcomed supporting site audits from both of our accreditation bodies, BM TRADA and Bluesky, receiving clean audits and fantastic feedback from both.

Our trusted spraying partner, Kraft Coatings, is now working evenings to complete the final decorations and making good to architraves, ensuring each building is finished in line with its existing colour scheme.

Whilst the replacement programme may now be complete, our work with West Suffolk College continues. We will be supporting the client with an ongoing maintenance programme covering both the new and existing maintained door sets. Through our cloud-based asset management system, incorporating QR-tagged assets, the client has access to a complete audit trail and maintenance history whenever required.

With the college being so close to our offices and several members of our team having attended the college themselves, this project has always felt particularly close to home. It has been, and continues to be, a pleasure working with West Suffolk College and supporting the ongoing safety and maintenance of their estate.

Today marks a monumental milestone for LAC Services (East Anglia) Ltd as we proudly begin the first stage of our working relationship at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Being entrusted to carry out passive fire protection works at one of the UK’s most iconic and historically significant landmarks is an incredible opportunity and a true honour for our team.

Our role is about more than compliance, it’s about helping to protect the fabric of this remarkable building while enhancing the safety of the thousands of visitors, staff and worshippers who pass through its doors.

This project reflects the trust placed in our expertise, dedication and commitment to delivering the highest standards of passive fire protection.

We look forward to working alongside the team at St Paul’s Cathedral and contributing to the preservation and protection of this extraordinary landmark for generations to come.

🏛️ Project Complete | Westminster Cathedral Crypt Wall Upgrade 🏛️

Last week, the LAC Services team successfully completed a specialist project at the iconic Westminster Cathedral, demonstrating the strength of our multi-trade offering and collaborative approach.

Our client required the removal of an existing services room wall within the cathedral crypt, which was to be replaced in accordance with the project drawings. The new installation comprised a 60-minute fire-rated partition wall, complete with a FD60s-certified door set, helping to improve both fire safety and compartmentation within the space.

🔨 Scope of Works:

🪚 Carpentry
• Construction of the new stud partition wall
• Installation of plasterboard
• Fitting of the FD60s-certified doorset

🎨 Plastering & Decorating
• Skimming of the newly installed wall
• Full decoration and finishing works, transforming the appearance of the area

🔥 Fire Stopping
• Sealing all pe*******ons, voids and openings
• Ensuring effective compartmentation and compliance with fire safety requirements

Working within such a prestigious and historic building was a privilege for our team. The positive feedback received from the client is a reflection of the professionalism, workmanship and dedication shown by everyone involved.

During May half term, the team at LAC Services (East Anglia) Ltd had the privilege of carrying out fire stopping works at St Paul’s Cathedral School.

Working within such a prestigious and historic building is something we are incredibly proud of. Projects like this highlight just how important passive fire protection is, not only for compliance, but for safeguarding people, property, and the future of important buildings.
