🏆 What an incredible journey for Glyn Wylfa Ltd.

Last night our Chairman, Mick Ramsey, and Finance Director, Brian Colley, attended the HSBC UK & FSB National Small Business Growth Awards at The Savoy in London, where Glyn Wylfa proudly represented Wales and the South West as the regional winner of the Community Award.

Whilst we didn't take home the national title, we are immensely proud and honoured to have been recognised alongside some truly inspirational businesses from across the UK, all making a positive difference in their communities.

To be named the regional winner and invited to the national finals is a tremendous achievement for our social enterprise and a reflection of the dedication of our staff, volunteers, directors, tenants, customers and supporters who make Glyn Wylfa and Cafe - Caffi Wylfa what they are.

Our mission has always been simple: to benefit the local community. Whether through providing jobs, supporting local charities and community groups, offering affordable business accommodation, hosting events, or creating a welcoming hub for residents and visitors alike, everything we do is driven by that purpose.

A special thank you to HSBC UK and the Federation of Small Businesses for recognising community-focused organisations and giving businesses like ours the opportunity to showcase the impact they make.

Brian reports that we received fantastic recognition and coverage as the regional winner throughout the evening, and it was a privilege to hear from Dragons' Den star Sara Davies, who passed on her congratulations to all of the finalists.

Congratulations to the national winner and to every business shortlisted. We are proud to have shared the stage with you.

Huge news for Glyn Wylfa Ltd… we are absolutely delighted to share that we have been named Winner – Community Category (Wales & South West) at the HSBC UK & FSB Small Business Growth Awards. 🏆

I had the honour of attending the awards ceremony in Bristol to accept the award on behalf of the company, and it was a genuinely proud moment for us all.
To be recognised in such strong company is incredible and reflects the hard work, commitment and passion shown every day by our team across both Glyn Wylfa Ltd and Caffi Wylfa. From our café staff, office tenants, directors and volunteers, to everyone working behind the scenes – this award belongs to all of you.

Since 2013, our mission has been simple: benefit the local community. Whether through creating jobs, supporting local groups and charities, providing a welcoming hub for residents and visitors, or reinvesting into our facilities for the future, we are proud to be a business with purpose.

All proceeds from the exhibition go directly to Nightingale House Hospice, funding essential care, comfort, and support for patients and their families.🩵

Glyn Wylfa AGM reports another record year of growth and impact

The directors continue to ensure that Glyn Wylfa is developed for the benefit of the local community. Caffi Wylfa visitors and sales increased last year by 11% (+73% over the last 5 years) and they have achieved annual visitors of over 80,000 (+78% over the last 5 years). Glyn Wylfa has invested 85% of its pretax surplus, over the last 8 years, in Capital equipment to improve productivity, energy usage and customer and tenant facilities. A 50% reduction in electricity usage has been achieved.
Glyn Wylfa supported and hosted two major events in 2025: The Wrexham leg of the Baton of Hope, the UK’s largest su***de prevention and awareness initiative and the first Chirk 10k fun run which attracted 500 runners.
Glyn Wylfa provides a community room that is free of charge to local groups and displays local artists’ work in the café, which is sold on their behalf. They work with Coleg Cambria to provide weekly Welsh language lessons.
They engage and support local charities and interest groups with donations and sponsorship. Twenty donations were made last year totaling £10,000. Their main charity partners are Hope House & Tŷ Gobaith, Nightingale House Hospice and the mental health charity, Advance Brighter Futures and they support all youth sports clubs in Chirk, local churches and other interest groups. A large screen in the Caffi shows the beneficiaries of the local community donations.

Glyn Wylfa is supporting North Wales business and community transport links. Director Cllr Brian Colley and Cllr Terry Evans joined other Councillors and business leaders on the WSMR train to London to lobby support for the proposed new direct rail service from North Wales, Shropshire and the Midlands to London, Euston. Thanks to WSMR (Wrexham Shropshire Midlands Rail) who provided a great service.
