Every MSP website says the same thing: 24/7 support. Proactive monitoring. A personal touch, not just a ticket number.

So when a prospect is comparing your MSP against two of your competitors and you all say exactly the same, how do they actually decide?

Not from your services page, not from your about us page. From proof that you've done it before, for a business like theirs.

I've just written about the one marketing asset most MSPs know they need and never quite get round to 👇

A step-by-step look at how I create a case study for MSPs, from client interview to social proof that helps prospects choose you over a competitor.

Channelling my inner 80s this weekend. 🎧

I've being stripping walls to prep for the plasterer - and the only way to get through a job like that is the right distraction.

So: headphones on, tablet propped up, and a back-to-back 80s movie marathon.

Flashdance, A Chorus Line and Dirty Dancing got me through every last scrape.

Walls (& ceiling🤦‍♀️) stripped. Prepped. Ready for the plasterer.

Turns out a bit of leg warmers-and-legwork energy gets the job done.

I'll still be DIYing next week so any film recommendations, preferably with a banging soundtrack welcome.

Happy Friday!

Reflecting on a genuinely good week. A few client meetings, including one IRL at Strawberry Fields Digital Hub - Chorley, which was a nice change from the usual screens.

The big thing I'm excited about: we've got a lead gen campaign in the pipeline via LinkedIn Ads. Targeted, measurable, and (in my opinion) one of the most underrated channels out there.

I'll happily say it again: LinkedIn Ads are cheaper than Google, more precisely targeted, and far easier to measure against real business outcomes. For B2B especially, it's hard to beat.

Anyone else running LinkedIn campaigns at the moment? Would love to hear what's working for you.

Most MSP marketing gets one thing badly wrong. And most agencies sell into that mistake.

Your audience already has an IT provider.

Most are mildly unhappy with them. Some are properly fed up. But almost none are unhappy enough to actually do anything about it - because switching IT providers feels like a hassle, a risk, and a project nobody has time for.

I call it the switching hurdle. The gap between "I'm not thrilled with my current provider" and "I'm willing to go through the pain of changing." It's much higher than most MSPs think. And it's where 90% of your marketing work actually happens.

This is why lead gen campaigns in the MSP world almost always flop. Agencies flog you bottom-of-funnel tactics: paid ads, cold outreach, lead magnets built for "ready buyers" but the people who'll buy from you next quarter aren't ready buyers yet. They're standing at the hurdle, staring up at it.

So your marketing's real job is this:
- Name the specific pains they're feeling with their current provider, so they feel seen.
- Stay visible for months, not weeks, so you're top of mind when the inertia finally cracks.
- Make switching feel less scary — not just make your service sound shinier. A well-written "here's exactly what onboarding looks like" page sells harder than any glossy services page ever will.

If your marketing is built around "leads this month," you're optimising for a stage of the buying journey almost none of your prospects are in.
The MSPs who win play the long game. Their marketing patiently chips away at that hurdle, week after week, for the months it takes a prospect to actually be ready.

Marketing in the MSP space is getting more templated, more automated, and more AI-generated by the month. And the one thing I find myself saying again and again to clients is this:
People buy from people.

Not from logos. Not from polished, generic content that could’ve come from anywhere. Not from brand voices so smoothed-out they sound exactly like every competitor.

From people.

And the MSPs who are going to win the next few years aren’t the ones with the slickest templated content programme. They’re going to be the ones whose marketing actually sounds like the humans behind it.

It’s why I tell every MSP I work with that “Sarah’s had a baby” posts belong on your LinkedIn alongside the serious cyber security content.

Not because team news drives leads, it doesn’t. But because it tells your prospects these are real people, and you can pick up the phone and call them.

In a technical, AI-driven, increasingly faceless industry, that’s honestly the most valuable signal you can send.

And you can’t template it. You can’t AI-generate it. It has to be built around your actual team, your actual voice, your actual values.

Because if your marketing doesn’t sound like you, it just sounds like everyone.
