It’s Tuesday. It’s 11.00am, so it’s time for an Outlook email tip!

Ooh, here’s a biggie – both in terms of length of the post and potential impact. Definitely grab yourself a cup of something hot for this one 🍵

Have you ever hit Send on an email and immediately regretted it? I think if answering honestly, most people would say yes.

If this is your biggest fear, have you thought about putting a delay on all your emails – just in case you have a sudden change of heart or realise an error just as you hit Send?

👉 Go to your Sent Items and open the email
👉 Click File > Info > Resend or Recall > Recall this Message
👉 Choose whether to delete unread copies or replace with a new message

⚠️ It only works if you and the recipient use Outlook (on the same Exchange server) and the email hasn’t been opened yet.

Not foolproof – but it can sometimes work like magic 🪄

If this is your biggest fear, have you thought about putting a delay on all your emails – just in case you have a sudden change of heart or realised an error just as you hit Send?

Here’s how:

👉 Create a rule by clicking File > Manage Rules & Alerts
👉 In the Emails Rules tab, click New Rule
👉 Select Apply rule on messages I send (at the bottom)
👉 Click Next and Next again (don’t select any conditions)
👉 Click Yes when asked if you want this to apply to all sent messages
👉 Now add the delay: tick ‘defer delivery by a number of minutes’
👉 Click the underlined ‘a number of’
👉 Select the delay time (a couple of minutes is ideal for this purpose)
👉 Add any exceptions if appropriate
👉 Click Next and Apply to finish setting up the rule

And breathe!

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do”

Over lunch recently, my partner and I were chatting about reviews.

We were reminiscing about a review we read, where, during the snowy December of 2010, a guest gave a hotel a poor review because they’d asked reception to call them a taxi, and it turned up late because of the snow❄️☃️

To top it off, they also complained that the telly was too far from the bed!

Personally, that's not something I'd lose sleep over. I’m far more interested in clean sheets and a quiet room.

It got me thinking. Sometimes, a bad review reveals more about the reviewer than the business itself. What do you think?

What’s the most bizarre review you’ve ever come across?

It’s Tuesday. It’s 11.00am, so what time is it? Time for an Outlook email tip!

Here’s one of my favourites ✨

It’s perfect for introductions, sign-offs, answers to FAQs – anything that you find yourself typing regularly in an email.
Do you find yourself typing the same message or paragraph in an email regularly?

If so, are you using Quick Parts? It couldn’t be simpler.

Here’s how:

👉 Highlight the text in your message that you want to re-use
👉 Click Insert > Quick Parts > Save Selection to Quick Part Gallery
👉 Give it a name and click Save
👉 When you want to use your saved text, go to Insert > Quick Parts and select your saved message

It’s perfect for introductions, signs offs, answers to FAQs – anything that you find yourself typing regularly in an email.

Small change. Big impact.

Tweaking a few settings in Zoom can make your workshops go smoother, slicker and far less stressful. 💻🎧

Whether you're hosting client sessions, workshops or team check-ins, taking a few minutes to optimise your Zoom settings can really up your game. And no, you don’t need to be a tech wizard – just a bit of know-how goes a long way!

Here are some quick wins:

🔧 Check your audio settings before you join
Test your mic and speakers – and make sure the right ones are selected (especially if you’re using a headset or external mic). Zoom has a handy ‘suppress background noise’ setting too. Make sure it’s toggled on!

🎥 Enable HD video
A clearer picture makes for a more engaging experience – particularly helpful if you're running sessions or working 1:1 with clients.

🧘‍♀️ Touch up your appearance (yes, really!)
Zoom’s ‘touch up my appearance’ filter is subtle but surprisingly effective. A little softening around the edges never hurt anyone!

👥 Use the waiting room and mute attendees on entry
These settings give you more control – ideal for workshops or bigger meetings. You can also set a custom waiting room message if you want to add a personal touch.

🔒 Check your security settings
Make sure you’ve got screen sharing, file sharing and chat permissions set appropriately – especially if you’re hosting. A few clicks now can save headaches later.

🎯 Tip: You can set all of these as default preferences in your Zoom account – so you don’t have to fiddle with them every time.

👥 Consider using a co-host for your meetings – someone who can take care of all the ‘faff’ while you concentrate on your delivery and on building rapport with your participants.

Small changes, big difference. Your future self (and your participants!) will thank you.

💬 Got a Zoom tip you swear by? Share it below – I’m all ears.

You can also customise your own response options simply by overtyping the existing ones.
Do you sometimes lose the will with endless reply-all email chains seeking thoughts and opinions? Don’t forget you can use the voting buttons!

Here’s how:

✔️ Start a new email
✔️ Click Options > Voting Buttons
✔️ Choose from the presets, e.g. Approve;Reject or Yes;No

You can also custom your own response options simply by overtyping the existing ones.
If you have lots of responses to track, you may find it helpful to paste them into Excel by going Message > Tracking.

It’s perfect for quickly seeking and tracking opinions.

I've seen that it's tomorrow. It's made me think about how much we actually use hashtags. They're such a handy part of how we find ideas and track topics online.

They’re also a brilliant way to join conversations, share tips, and connect with others in our chosen field. They help us connect with like-minded people or those interested in the same subject.

Of course, you also see them used sarcastically to add a touch of humour or personality to a post.

I've seen used sarcastically when the writer was feeling anything but blessed. I must admit that always makes me smile.

It won't surprise some of you to know that I'm currently searching on X a lot at the moment, looking for activity from Forest in the transfer market! How about you? Are there any particular hashtags you use a lot?

"And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul."

Last Sunday's tifo display by the brilliant fan group Forza Garibaldi at Forest was fantastic and thought-provoking - as always.

These words formed the central part of the display across the Trent End and are the words of Scottish-born explorer John Muir.

Muir, who dedicated his life to preserving natural spaces, also had a deep connection with the peace and perspective found in the wild.

I think a few people have misconceptions about the vast majority of football fans. This display, though, struck me as quite profound (they usually are!). It resonated with me on two levels - as a Forest supporter and someone who appreciates the power of nature to ground us.

Sharing it here today with the question, "What feelings do these words invoke in you?" 💬🌲

This week, is taking a little break because it's World Photo Day, and I couldn’t resist the chance to share one of my favourite hobbies 📸

Photography is my go-to antidote after a busy day. I love the peace it brings, the excuse to step away from my desk, and the joy of capturing something 'in the moment' out in the big wide world. There's something quite grounding about it.

Here’s a recent snap I took - nothing fancy, just a quiet moment that made me pause.

So, how do you wind down after a hectic day? Any hobbies that help you switch off and recharge?

A podcast might begin with a mic and a great idea, but behind the scenes? There’s a lot to do!

🔹 Booking and liaising with guests
🔹 Sending out bios, headshots, links and reminders
🔹 Writing show notes
🔹 Uploading to platforms
🔹 Scheduling promo content
🔹 Following up afterwards

Each task is manageable on its own. Together, they can pile up quickly.

This is the kind of admin a VA can handle with ease – keeping things running smoothly, episode after episode.

A-Level results day is such a strange one, isn't it?

For some, it's a celebration. For others, it’s a gut-punch. I remember the nerves so clearly. Thankfully, I got the results I needed to head off to the university I’d set my sights on, but even then, the pressure and tension of the day really stayed with me. Perhaps even more so, watching my 'kids' go through it.

Yet years on, I’ve met so many brilliant people who didn’t get the results they hoped for, and have nonetheless gone on to build incredible careers, businesses and lives. It’s reminded me that qualifications can open doors, but they don’t define us.

It's not just about what you know or what grades you got. It's about how you use your skills, how you grow, and how you keep showing up.

So, if your path took an unexpected turn after results day - what happened next? Did things turn out better than you expected? Do you think higher grades would have changed anything?

Let’s hear those inspiring stories ✨
