How are your work relationships right now?
Do you know your colleagues are there for you, supporting you and encouraging you… or is your workplace sometimes a war zone- a place of conflict and high emotion?
Often we can smooth over or resolve the conflict, but sometimes, conflict becomes so bitter or destructive that a mediator has to be employed. So what should we expect of a mediator?

My role as a mediator is to listen to everyone involved, encourage discussion and facilitate a suitable environment for resolution. I do not provide any advice or recommend any particular solution. If you require advice, you can ask for a break at any time to seek advice from others. I will ask permission to address difficult issues & ask probing questions to help move the matter toward resolution. No one has to answer these questions, but if you do so in private sessions, I will not disclose what is said to me.

The process is 'without prejudice', which means that what is said in the mediation cannot be used as evidence in court. This is the case unless a decision is made, written and signed by both groups involved in the mediation. This would then make it a binding agreement.

One of the primary challenges we encounter in our growth as managers and leaders is the reluctance to seek assistance. When receiving a promotion, taking on a new project, or dealing with a different client, we often realise our lack of experience but hesitate to ask for help out of fear of appearing inadequate or vulnerable.

Seeking help, however, demonstrates our awareness of areas where we need to improve and our willingness to learn from those who have the necessary skills and knowledge. This not only helps in building better relationships but also in developing a solid knowledge base, allowing us to give more time to other aspects of our work.

Personally, when I sought help, I gained valuable insights into areas such as managing a team, conducting meetings effectively, setting goals, and fostering a productive team environment - much of which was imparted by a colleague within the team I was leading.

Who could you approach for assistance? Whether it's a coworker, supervisor, or a professional, reaching out for help is essential for growth.

Often clients approach Multiply Group when they have had enough.

They have tried different ways of overcoming a problem, and sometimes a conflict situation and nothing seems to be working.

In fact, sometimes all their efforts seems to be making things worse.

They will often ask for us to come and work with them and their team, helping overcome communication problems or conflict issues. This involves helping them working out how to adapt and change behaviours so they can work well together in the future, or how to finish well and do exit interviews if working together is no longer an option.
We also provide training to help teams communicate well so they can overcome potential hurdles in the future, and bring the best out of conflict situations.

There is always an authority gradient, no matter how hard you try.
The question is, what are you going to do about it?

Authority gradient is where there is any kind of power imbalance between people in an organisation. This could be due to status, position, education, gender, length of tenure or a whole host of other things.

A steep gradient hinders communication & increases mistakes, reducing the effectiveness of the organisation.

Putting effective communication systems in place for all staff to be heard is one step that can be taken to lower the gradient, as long as staff feel safe enough to speak up.
