“Low Carbon Fire Safe”

But how do you prove fire safety when the UK can only test Fire Resistance up to 3m in height and a typical UK school storey height is 3.6m?!

To answer that, Innovaré undertook fire resistance testing on 5m high load bearing i-FAST panels at the UKAS-accredited Thomas Bell-Wright International Fire Test Laboratory in Dubai. The results demonstrated fire resistance performance to BS EN 1364-1, achieving up to REI 60.

This testing wasn’t about meeting the minimum requirement. It was about providing greater confidence to our clients, designers and contractors.

Some of the Innovaré team visited the Sheffield Maintenance Delivery Unit (MDU) site earlier this week to see progress first‑hand.

Delivered by Henry Boot Construction for Network Rail, the scheme combines efficient design with future ready performance and is setting a new benchmark for the delivery of future MDU facilities.

Innovaré is onsite delivering the full structure using our Low Risk Rapid Build solution, incorporating our award winning, i‑FAST panels. These panels provide structural integrity and loadbearing strength, alongside enhanced fire, thermal and acoustic performance, helping reduce design concessions, enable intelligent value engineering and achieve faster build times compared to traditional methods.

📸 Despite the typical British rainy weather, progress continues at pace at Somerlea Park Junior School, as the new school begins to take shape in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

Working in partnership with Bowmer + Kirkland, the Department for Education, Amber Valley Borough Council and CPMG Architects, Innovaré is delivering the schools super structure using our Low Risk Rapid Build full structure solution. This includes our 384mm low carbon, fire safe i‑FAST panels engineered to deliver high levels of structural, thermal, acoustic and fire performance within a single system, complete with factory‑fitted windows and external cladding,

Once complete, the school will provide Space for 240 pupils aged 7–11, Eight classrooms and a dining hall, A 2,500m² playing field and a multi use games area for tennis, netball and football

It’s a great example of how offsite construction supports the delivery of high quality education environments efficiently and predictably, whatever the weather.

The future of school buildings will be defined by the choices we make today, starting with materials.

The built environment is under increasing pressure to deliver low carbon, high performing school buildings that support both learners and the planet. One of the biggest drivers of change? Material choice.

Concrete and steel remain major contributors to global CO₂ emissions. They are heavy, resource-intensive to produce, and costly to transport.

Timber, by contrast, is renewable, low carbon, lightweight, and efficient to transport.
