As we come to the end of Volunteers Week, we want to acknowledge how volunteering doesn’t just change lives - it strengthens communities and workplaces too.

Our business volunteers share practical skills and industry knowledge, plus encouragement for local people preparing for employment.

A huge thank you to every business partner who supports our Croydon community, in particular our Principal Partners: Mott MacDonald, AWP - Allianz Worldwide Partners, and TBXH.

Interested in partnering with us? We’d love to hear from you at [email protected].

Real impact happens when skills meet community need.

Volunteering with Croydon Commitment isn’t just about time or advice, it’s about hands-on action that transforms local spaces.

Our initiative brings people, skills, and organisations together to deliver practical, visible impact where it matters most.

We've brought some amazing contractors together to support “Our Space” which is home to Disability Croydon and a vital hub for local community groups.

Thanks to partners including OCS Facilities Services, Prolec Electrical and Compliance Solutions, Mulalley & Company Limited and Buxton Building Contractors, we’ve already begun essential upgrades - including electrical surveys, new kitchen facilities, and improved toilets. We can't thank them enough for their support!

But there’s still more to do.

If you’re a contractor, supplier, or skilled professional able to contribute time, expertise, or materials, we’d love to hear from you.

Together, we can create safer, more accessible, and more welcoming community spaces across Croydon.

As we continue to follow the impact of grants made to celebrate our 20th anniversary, today we are sharing an update on the Cre8Football Coach Mentoring Project - providing opportunities for young people across Croydon to develop confidence, skills, experience and pathways into employment.

Since launching in December 2025, the project has engaged 34 young people aged 16–22 with 25 currently on track to complete the programme. Through a combination of mentoring, leadership development, employability training, coaching education and practical volunteering opportunities, participants have gained valuable experience both on and off the pitch.

The project has also strengthened community delivery, with participants now supporting Cre8's Grass to Grades programme and former participants returning as volunteer mentors, creating a powerful cycle of peer support and community leadership.

Thanks to our business community, this financial support has enabled Cre8 Football to empower the next generation of coaches, referees, mentors and community leaders.

348 - that's how many people we've supported so far this year on their journey towards employment and we couldn't have done any of it without our volunteers!

This Volunteers' Week, we want to take a moment to recognise the incredible people who make our Ways2Work employability programme possible.

This week, as a new report revealed that more than 1 million young people aged 16–24 are currently not in employment, education or training (NEET), our volunteers are helping to ensure this trend does not continue in Croydon.

To every volunteer who has supported our Ways2Work employability programme: thank you. The impact you are making extends far beyond a single session or workshop. You are helping to change lives.

It's Volunteers Week! At Croydon Commitment, we connect businesses with the local community through meaningful volunteering opportunities that create real impact.

One of these initiatives is our reading scheme with local primary school, Ark Oval, where volunteers spend time supporting children with their reading during the school day.

A huge thank you to Mohinee Bhagawan, Dom Minton, Sila Durmus, Eden Habtou and Ruqaiya Saeed from Mott MacDonald, who are generously giving up their time to hear children read and help build their confidence.

Reading plays a vital role in primary education - strengthening language and communication skills, supporting emotional development, and building the foundations for lifelong learning.

Small acts of volunteering can make a lasting difference. Thank you to everyone helping inspire the next generation.

We were delighted to partner with Bright Futures 4 All yesterday to deliver a Confidence and Employability workshop for 24 inspiring young people who chose to spend part of their half term investing in their future.

A huge thank you to our incredible volunteers - Louise Albosh, Dorcas Asare, Grace Loewe, Meera Ferguson, Anisa Ahmed, and Claudia Afeltra - for giving their time, sharing their experiences, and helping young people build confidence and workplace skills.

The feedback from participants was fantastic, with one young person saying:
“It was really good to understand more about the world of work and to engage with business people.”

Sessions like these show just how valuable volunteering can be. By sharing your experience, advice, and encouragement, you can help raise aspirations, build confidence, and open doors for young people across Croydon.

If you’d like to support future employability and mentoring sessions, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can help inspire the next generation.

As we continue to celebrate the impact of Croydon Commitment's special 20th anniversary grants, we’re proud to spotlight another inspiring project that made a real difference in our local community.

The Street Food Youth Cooking Programme, delivered by Good Food Matters Charity used grant funding to empower 22 young people — including those at risk of becoming NEET and young people with special educational needs — through hands-on cooking, teamwork, and employability training.

Participants gained:
👩‍🍳 Practical cooking experience
🤝 Confidence and teamwork skills
📋 Food safety knowledge
💬 Strong peer relationships and communication skills

The programme not only built valuable life and employability skills, but also inspired young people to think differently about their futures.

One participant shared:
“I didn’t think I could cook for other people before – now I want to work in a kitchen.”

A lasting legacy of the project is the launch of the Croydon Cooks Youth Award — an annual cooking competition that will continue to inspire and support young people across Croydon for years to come.

Thank you to everyone involved in delivering such meaningful community impact!

We’re proud to share the impact of the Dream Forward Programme delivered by Ignite Young Minds, supported through a community grant from Croydon Commitment as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations.

Through mentoring, workshops, enrichment activities, and safe spaces, Dream Forward has supported around 30 young people aged 13–17 across to build confidence, resilience, and hope for the future.

The programme has provided:
• 1:1 mentoring and group support
• Emotional wellbeing and resilience sessions
• Leadership and life skills development
• Creative arts, sports, music, and team-building activities
• Positive role modelling and trusted relationships

The initiative particularly supported young people at risk of exclusion, disengagement from education, involvement in youth violence, or facing mental health and wellbeing challenges.

And the results? Participants reported improved confidence, stronger emotional resilience, better engagement in school, and greater optimism about their futures.
One young person shared:
“The mentoring helped me believe in myself again and gave me someone to talk to when things were difficult.”
Another said:
“Dream Forward helped me think positively about my future and what I want to achieve.”

This work highlights the importance of early intervention, mentoring, and community-based support for young people in Croydon, and demonstrates how local partnerships and targeted grant funding can create meaningful change.

Congratulations to the team at for the incredible work they continue to deliver for young people across our borough.
