"Networking's just awkward small talk and pushy sales pitches, right?"

That's what a lot of people think before they've actually tried it - and it's one of the biggest reasons business owners never give it a go.

Here's the reality at ACE: nobody's cornering you to pitch, and you don't need to already know half the room to feel welcome. Most people who walk in for the first time are in exactly the same boat - a bit unsure, wondering if it's "their thing." What they usually find instead is a relaxed room full of people happy to chat about what they do, genuinely interested in helping where they can, and in no rush to sell you anything.

The best way to find out if it's for you is to just come and see for yourself. Your first visit is free, no obligation, no pressure - just a chance to meet the people behind local businesses and community groups, and decide if it feels right.

If you've been curious but never quite taken the leap, this is your sign. Get in touch, and we'll help you plan your first visit.

Thought about coming along to an ACE meeting and wondered what actually happens when you walk into your first ACE meeting? Here's the honest version. You arrive, someone greets you at the door, and you're introduced around to a few friendly faces. There's no seating plan, no spotlight moment, no queue of people waiting to pitch at you. Just relaxed conversation about what you do, how business is going, and what's happening locally.

As the evening goes on, you'll pick up on names, businesses and a few in-jokes you're not quite in on yet from the club's comedian, Ian — that's normal; give it time. Nobody expects you to "perform" or sell anything on night one. You're just there to meet people and see if it feels right for you.

That's genuinely it. No pressure, no pitch, no obligation. Your first visit is free, so come along, have a chat, and decide for yourself.

Fancy a proper feel-good night out that does some good along the way? Eastleigh Rotary Rocks is back at The Point Theatre on Saturday 28th November, and it's exactly the sort of local event we love to shout about.

It's live music, a great venue right in the heart of Eastleigh, and every ticket helps support charitable causes making a real difference in our area. That's the kind of night that ticks every box - good company, good tunes, good cause.

If you've been looking for something to do that weekend, grab some friends, family or colleagues and make a night of it. Events like this only work when the community gets behind them, so let's fill that theatre.

Know someone who'd love this? Tag them below and spread the word.

Thinking about joining a networking group but not sure where to start? Here are a few honest questions worth asking yourself first.

What will it actually cost, and is that clear upfront? What does a typical meeting look like — structured pitches, or real conversation? Is there a genuine focus on community, or is it all business, all the time? And perhaps most importantly, what's the referral culture like — do people recommend each other because they trust one another, or because they feel obligated?

At ACE, we'd rather you find these answers out for yourself before committing to anything. That's why your first meeting with us is completely free — no pressure, no obligation, just a chance to meet the people behind local businesses and see if it feels right.

We meet on the third Thursday of every month at The King Rufus in Eastleigh, from 5:45 pm to 7:30 pm. Come along, ask us your questions, and decide for yourself.

Try this next time you walk into a networking meeting: instead of thinking, "Who can help me?" try, "Who could I help?"

It sounds like a small shift, but it changes everything. You start listening differently. You notice the graphic designer who mentioned she's struggling with her website, or the charity worker looking for a venue, or the new business owner who could use an introduction to someone in your contacts.

In practice, it might look like passing on a supplier's name, offering ten minutes of advice, or simply saying "I know someone who could help with that." None of it needs to be complicated or costly.

The funny thing is, this is usually how the best referrals happen anyway. People remember who was generous with their time long before they remember a good pitch.

Big news — ACE is putting its money where its heart is and sponsoring its very first event!

We're proud to be backing a ska concert by nine-piece band RATRACE, one of the uk's best 9-piece ska bands, playing two-tone classics and original material at The Point Theatre, Eastleigh on Saturday 6th February 2027. Anyone who's seen a nine-piece band knows this is going to be loud, joyful and impossible to sit still through.

For us, this is what community support looks like in action. It's not always about boardrooms and business cards — sometimes it's about backing talent, filling a local theatre and having a genuinely brilliant night out alongside neighbours, members and friends.

Get it in the diary. We'd love to see you there dancing next to us.
