There's certainly been a change in the weather here this week! Now that there’s an autumnal feel in the air, it’s a great time to tackle a quick win: decluttering hats, scarves and gloves.

This small job makes busy mornings so much easier — and it only takes a few minutes 🙌

Here’s how to do it:

🧣 Lay everything out — include items from cars, schoolbags, cupboards and coat pockets.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Group by person — seeing it all together helps you avoid duplicates.

💛 Donate anything unloved — clothing banks and charities always appreciate autumn/winter accessories.

✔️ Do a quick inventory — two sets per person is usually plenty.

Top tip: A basket, drawer divider or over-the-door shoe organiser in the hall cupboard makes grab-and-go storage simple for kids and adults alike 👍

P.S. Like this tip? My book has a similar step-by-step approach, with one page per category, for decluttering and organising thirty categories throughout your home. 🍂 Pro Tip Tuesday: A September Reset

September often feels like a fresh start. As routines return and life settles into a new rhythm, it's a great opportunity to pause and think about how you want the rest of the year to feel.

Rather than focusing on what you want to let go of, think about what you want to gain from your home.

✨ How do you want it to work for you?

Imagine...

👕 Opening your wardrobe and finding what you need with ease.
📂 Being able to lay your hands on important paperwork in seconds.
🍽️ Planning meals without hunting through cupboards or wondering what's for dinner.
🛋️ Walking into rooms that feel calm, welcoming and easy to use.

The more specific you can be about what you want your home to do for you, the easier it becomes to make decisions about what stays, what goes and what needs organising.

If you're ready for a fresh start, my free Better Organised Home Planner is a great place to begin. It will help you plan your organising projects and take small, manageable steps towards a calmer, better organised home.

✨ Weekly Round-Up ✨

This week's theme has been creating systems that are built for today – and ready for tomorrow.

🏡 With clients – I helped a busy mum put the finishing touches to her hardworking boot room. Matching baskets and some repurposed bunting have softened the space, while keeping everything practical, organised and easy to access.

📂 I also supported a new client to sift through archived paperwork ahead of filing storage arriving in her new home. A substantial bundle of outdated papers is now on its way for secure destruction and recycling, making room for the documents that really matter.

💻 Online – I had my first session with a fellow business owner, helping her streamline her digital files and folders. Together we started decluttering what she no longer needs and updated the structure to better reflect her current life and business, with the goal of carrying only what's truly useful into 2027.

It's amazing how a few thoughtful changes—whether physical or digital—can make everyday life feel calmer, lighter and much easier to navigate.

✨ If you're ready to create systems that work for the life you're living now, I'd love to help. You can book a free telephone or Zoom consultation here:

📧 Pro Tip Tuesday: Use the R.A.F.T. method for email

Does opening your inbox ever feel overwhelming? You're not alone.

One of the simplest ways to reduce email stress is to make a decision every time you open a message. I use the R.A.F.T. method:

🚩 Refer – If someone else's input is needed, forward it.

✅ Act – If it will take less than two minutes, do it straight away. If it needs longer, capture the action in your calendar or trusted to-do list, then come back to it at the right time.

📁 File – Once you've dealt with it or captured the action, move the email into an appropriate folder (this could be as simple as having one folder named 'filed', or a handful of folders with broad headings).

🗑️ Trash – If you don't need it, delete it.

✨ Every email only needs one decision. The more you avoid making that decision, the more mental clutter your inbox creates.

Do you have an email management tip that works well for you? I'd love to hear it in the comments.

P.S. This can easily be adapted to work for WhatsApp messages, texts, DMs....the list goes on!

✨ Weekly Round-Up ✨

This week's theme has definitely been letting go of things we simply won't use – creating space for what matters and giving useful items a second life.

🏡 With clients – I helped a busy mum transform her hardworking hall cupboard into a space that's easy to navigate, with everyday essentials grouped into simple, accessible zones. Ten bags of items went to charity and another to a local hygiene bank.

👚 I also supported an elderly client to review her wardrobe so it better reflects her current health and lifestyle. Keeping things simple, visual and easy to access will make everyday dressing much less of a challenge. She told me it would have taken forever on her own – together, we completed it in under two hours.

🚗 A beautiful lochside commute took me to a client who'd been putting off tackling her garage since moving house two years ago. We worked through boxes of memories, decided what still fits her life today, created clear zones for camping gear, DIY and keepsakes, and cleared six carloads of items. The best moment? Seeing the smile on her face as she stepped onto her treadmill for the first time in a long while, thanks to the new home gym we'd created.

💻 At my desk – I prepared for an online session with a new client who wants to better organise her calendar, sourced storage options for a regular client, and settled back into the rhythm of term-time.

💛 At home – I received a beautiful branded notebook as a promotional gift. It was far too lovely to sit unused in a drawer, but I knew I'd never use it, so I passed it straight to a family member who will. It feels good knowing it'll be enjoyed instead of gathering dust.

Sometimes the most freeing decision is simply acknowledging, "I'm not going to use this" – and letting it go to someone who will.

What can you let go of this weekend? Pop it in the comments!

The new school term certainly does roll around quickly, but a little planning can mean a lot less fire-fighting. Here are 3 tips to help you breeze the start of a new academic year!

1) Update your calendar with school holidays, prelim/exam timetables, key dates and extra-curricular activities

2) Ensure the school is up-to-date with your contact details and children's medical info

3) Add current phone numbers to your phone (for schools, breakfast/after-school clubs and childminders) and delete any that are no longer relevant

Back from holiday with half-used mini toiletries or a stash of hotel freebies? You’re not alone!

When I’m working in clients’ homes, I often uncover drawers and bags brimming with travel-sized products, gift set items, and long-forgotten samples—some dating back decades. Cloudy shower gels, congealed lotions, and expired cleaning products might’ve once been saved for later - but now they’re just taking up space, can't be used, and need to be disposed of.

Instead of stashing them away for someday, why not carry a bit of that holiday feeling into your daily routine on your return from being away?

Clear space, avoid waste and continue the holiday vibe by using it, not storing it!

School’s out, routines are shifting, and the house might feel a little... full! Now is a great time to set up a donation station in your home.

As kids grow and summer brings in new gear, it's helpful to have a designated spot for anything that’s no longer needed — whether it’s too-small clothes, outgrown toys, unused books, or tech that’s past its prime.

In our house, we use a toy chest as a temporary home for these items. Once it’s full, I simply bag everything up and drop it at the charity shop, clothing bank, or pass it on to friends.

Having a go-to place for donations makes it easier to keep clutter in check — and gives your preloved items the chance to be loved again elsewhere.
