Your business isn’t stuck because people aren’t working hard.

That’s usually not the problem.

The owner is pushing.
The team is busy.
There are plans everywhere.

But progress still feels slow.

Why?

Because the business is trying to do too much at once.

Too many projects.
Too many priorities.
Too many distractions dressed up as opportunities.

That’s where momentum gets lost.

The question isn’t:

“What could we do?”

The question is:

“What must get done in the next 90 days?”

Because until you protect the few priorities that actually matter, the business will stay busy…

But not necessarily better.

Manager vs Director. Managers run the day‑to‑day in a department. Directors design and resource across teams to hit medium‑ to long‑term goals and grow managers to deliver. If a department can’t keep pace, you don’t need another manager; you need a director.

Drains vs Disruptors vs Stars. If your management time lives at the bottom of the matrix, your stars pay the price. Plot your team and move your focus to risers and stars.

It’s not a time issue. It’s a radar issue.

If people in your business keep agreeing to actions and then failing to do them, the problem may not be lack of time.

It may be that the task was never properly scheduled, prioritised or brought onto their radar.

In this video, I explain why actions from meetings often disappear, why “I didn’t have time” is not always the real issue, and how time blocking and shorter deadlines can improve follow-through in your team.

Your weakest people might be running your business.

Not officially.

But if they take most of your time, energy and attention…

They are controlling your focus.

That’s a problem.

Because your Stars and Risers are the people who can actually help move the business forward.

But they’re often left alone because they’re capable.

Meanwhile, the drains and disruptors dominate the diary.

That is how good businesses quietly lose momentum.

If you want a stronger team, start by asking:

Who needs development?
Who needs stretching?
Who needs confronting?
And who needs to leave?

28/05/2026

Are your weakest people getting most of your attention?

It happens quietly.

The people who drain energy, miss standards or need constant managing end up taking most of your time.

Meanwhile, your best people often get less coaching, less attention and fewer opportunities to grow.

That’s a problem.

Because your business won’t scale by constantly managing the lowest performers.

It scales when you invest in the people who can actually lift performance.

Leadership is often judged by what you tolerate.

Most business owners think they have a people problem.

They don’t.

They have a structure problem.

What starts as “everyone mucking in” eventually becomes chaos.

No clear responsibilities.
Messy reporting lines.
Weak ownership.
Poor management.

And then the team gets blamed.

But often, the people aren’t the real issue.

The design is.

If your business feels chaotic, don’t start by asking who needs to go.

Start by asking:

Is the structure actually fit for where the business is now?

26/05/2026

A lot of managing directors are too busy managing…

…and not doing the work only they can do.

If you lead a business, your responsibilities are not endless.

They are actually very clear:

• Set the strategy
• Deliver the financial result
• Build the team and structure to execute

That’s the job.

The problem is many owners spend their time reacting to problems instead of leading the business forward.

And eventually the business starts drifting.

No direction.
No clarity.
No real leadership.

The operational side of the business will always make noise.

But if you avoid the difficult strategic work because it feels complicated or uncomfortable, you are not setting the business up for success.

This is one of the biggest leadership traps I see in growing businesses.

You already know what’s holding your business back.

That’s the uncomfortable bit.

There are basics in your business that you know aren’t nailed.

Processes.
Numbers.
Recruitment.
Accountability.
Conversations you keep putting off.

And instead of fixing them…

You get pulled into the day-to-day.

Or look for the shortcut.

That’s the trap.

If you want the business to grow, stop avoiding the basics.

Growth shouldn’t feel this hard.

If it does…

You’re probably focusing on the wrong things.

Wrong customers.
Too many priorities.
Not enough clarity.

That’s what slows everything down.
