🐝 A Quick Note About Bees 🐝

We often receive calls asking if we can remove or treat bee nests. While we are happy to help with wasp problems, we do not carry out treatments on bees.

Why? Because bees are incredibly important pollinators and play a vital role in our environment and food production. In most cases, bees are not aggressive unless disturbed and can often be left alone safely.

Wasps, on the other hand, can become a nuisance around homes, gardens, and businesses, particularly during the summer months. If you’re dealing with a wasp nest, we’re here to help.

Not sure whether you’ve found bees or wasps? Feel free to send us a photo and we’ll happily identify them for you and provide advice.

🐝 Protecting pollinators.
🐝 Managing pest species responsibly.
🐝 Expert advice when you need it.

🦋 Common Clothes Moths – Small Pest, Big Damage 🦋

These photos show the signs of a common clothes moth infestation discovered during a recent inspection. The small white “cases” and damage found within carpets and fibres are caused by moth larvae feeding on natural materials such as wool, carpets, rugs, clothing and upholstery.

Many people don’t realise they have a problem until damage has already occurred.

Signs to look out for:
• Bald patches in carpets or rugs
• Small cream/white larvae or casings
• Tiny moths flying slowly around rooms
• Damage inside wardrobes, under furniture or along skirting edges

Clothes moths thrive in dark, undisturbed areas and can quickly spread throughout a property if left untreated.

At Bruce Environmental Ltd we provide professional moth inspections and treatments across Inverness, the Highlands & Moray to help protect your home and belongings.

If you suspect moth activity, early treatment is key before further damage occurs.

March has been another busy month for the team at Bruce Environmental Ltd, with a strong focus on prevention and long-term solutions across the Highlands & Moray.

A key highlight this month has been our solar panel proofing installs. The images show a clean mesh system fitted around the panels to prevent birds nesting underneath — protecting both the system and the property from damage, debris, and costly maintenance.

We’ve also carried out multiple installs of Defender Bird Spikes, as shown above. These are a highly effective way of stopping gulls from landing and nesting on roofs, chimneys, and ledges — especially important with nesting season fast approaching.

✔️ Protect your solar investment
✔️ Prevent nesting & mess
✔️ Stay ahead of seasonal pest issues

If you’re noticing increased bird activity or want to get ahead before nesting season begins, now is the time to act.

👀 March Look Ahead – Pest Control Update

As we move into March, temperatures begin to rise across Inverness, the Highlands & Moray — and that means increased pest activity.

At Bruce Environmental Ltd, we typically see a seasonal surge in:

🐀 Rodent activity – Rats and mice become more active as breeding season begins.
🐦 Bird nesting – Gulls and pigeons start looking for nesting sites on rooftops and solar panels.
🐜 Insects emerging – Ants and cluster flies begin appearing as the weather improves.
🪰 Fly activity – Commercial premises should prepare early to avoid issues later in spring.

Now is the ideal time to:
✔ Book preventative inspections
✔ Install proofing before nesting season
✔ Service EFK (electric fly killer) units
✔ Address any winter pest issues before they escalate

Prevention is always more cost-effective than cure. Acting early helps protect your property, reputation and compliance.

✅ Project Completed in Inverness ❄️

We’ve recently completed a pigeon net installation for one of our commercial clients in Inverness.

A 50mm pigeon net was installed to the internal roof of a spectator stand, covering an area of approximately 615m².
The system was designed and installed to prevent birds from nesting in the roof void of the spectator seating area, helping to prevent the structure, maintain hygiene standards and ensure the area remains clean and safe for public use.

Despite challenging conditions with temperatures around -5°C, the job was completed safely and efficiently using a MEWP.

A big thanks to FW Environmental Services for teaming up with us to help get the project completed successfully.

Another job done safely, even in tough conditions 💪

🐦 Thinking Ahead to Next Year’s Seagull Season? 🐦

Seagull nesting season in Scotland starts early in the spring – and once they’ve settled in, it can be very difficult to move them on.

Now is the perfect time to start planning your gull-proofing for 2026. By installing preventative measures such as netting, spikes, or deterrent systems before the nesting season begins, you can avoid:

✅ Noise and mess on your property
✅ Damage to roofs, chimneys, and solar panels
✅ Aggressive behaviour when gulls are protecting their chicks

Don’t wait until it’s too late – prevention is always easier (and cheaper) than dealing with the problem once birds are nesting.

📞 Contact Bruce Environmental Ltd today to arrange a free survey and stay one step ahead of next year’s nesting season.
