🚨Proposed Artisan Market - Have your say in our Business Survey.

📍Lancaster City Council has been approached by artisan market provider Themarketco about the potential to hold a monthly artisan market in Lancaster city centre. The City Council has approached Lancaster BID for our views on this to assist them in making a decision whether to proceed.

🏪We have spoken directly with a small number of businesses who have a range of views. Some businesses are supportive and feel the market could help attract higher footfall into the city centre whilst others have concerns regarding potential conflict and competition with existing city centre businesses.

🎙️We are asking as many city centre businesses as possible to complete this brief survey to let us know your views and ensure our feedback to the City Council is representative of as many businesses as possible. Lancaster BID will only recommend the market goes ahead if we have clear evidence of support from the majority of businesses responding to the survey. The final decision will lie with Lancaster City Council.

📍Please complete the short survey no later than June 30th to ensure we can include your views in our feedback to Lancaster City Council.

UPDATE - Thanks to an intervention from Cat Smith MP we can confirm that National Highways has revised the work schedule to reduce impact on traffic through Lancaster. The work and closures will now start at 9.00pm each night - 2 hours later than originally planned.

🚨Advance Notice - Overnight Closures on M6…
We have been notified by National Highways of planned work to resurface the northbound carriageway of the M6 between Junctions 33 and 34.

🛣️Work is scheduled to take place between 29th June and 18th July working Monday to Saturday. The full northbound carriageway will close from 9.00pm each evening during the work and reopen at 6.30am on Monday to Friday and 7.30am on Saturday.

📍During the closures, all traffic will be diverted off the motorway onto the A6 through Lancaster city centre. Manned temporary four-way lights will be installed at two of the busiest junctions on the A6, to help reduce congestion and delays.

🚨UPDATES ON GAGE STREET AND MARY STREET…

📣FURTHER UPDATE: 1.30pm Wednesday 📣

Pedestrian access is now fully restored and all businesses have been given clearance to open. The Tap House, Lancaster reopens later today (Wednesday) and Stable End Curios reopens 10.00 Thursday.

All other businesses are already open as usual.

❤️Please support local businesses in Lancaster.

‼️Businesses who have been affected, please tag yourselves and comment below when you are open so people know to visit you.

🚐Following progress on site, the temporary fencing has now been moved back, allowing pedestrian access across the front of the Tap House and through the passageway. This should help businesses to reopen and resume trading when it is considered safe to do so. However, vehicular access remains restricted at present due to the extent of the structural propping works currently in place.

📍Officers are continuing to liaise with us here at BID and affected businesses to provide support and updates, and also working with County Council officers to explore potential vehicular access arrangements, particularly in relation to delivery vehicles.

Lancaster BID has been in close contact with Lancaster City Council regarding the urgent closure to Gage Street and Mary Street.

We have already spoken with several businesses which are impacted. If your business is impacted by the closure and we haven't spoken to you yet, we encourage you to reach out to either us or the City Council to see how we may be able to assist.

We are grateful to the City Council for responding so quickly with scaffolders currently on site working to make the building safe. Updates on access will be issued when the scaffold is complete.

Has your business been affected by the road closures on Mary Street and Gage Street in Lancaster?

The roads were closed over the weekend due to a dangerous building.

Our Business Support team is working with Lancaster BID to support affected businesses. If that’s you, please get in touch at [email protected].

We’re also working with contractors to make the building safe, including installing structural scaffolding to secure the façade.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while this work is carried out.
