Safer Streets Initiative: Police and BID Team Up
On Wednesday 26 August, officers from Northcote and Lavender Ward Police teamed up with staff from The Junction BID to carry out a weapons sweep across the Clapham Junction town centre.
The joint operation was carried out ahead of Notting Hill Carnival, while also supporting efforts to tackle knife crime across Battersea. Officers and BID staff searched a range of potential hiding places, including bushes, street furniture and areas in and around public spaces where weapons, stolen property or other items could potentially be concealed or discarded.
The search covered car parks, open spaces, the rear of residential blocks and shops, as well as communal garden areas. The area searched stretched from the car parks at Junction Approach, off Falcon Road, through to the rear of Northcote Library.
Gary Burt, Executive BID Manager, said, “It was a useful exercise, with several locations across Clapham Junction town centre checked for knives, stolen property, drugs and other contraband. The operation also gave BID Security the opportunity to discuss additional concerns, including shoplifting and begging, with officers as part of our ongoing intelligence sharing.”
The initiative highlights the importance of partnership working between local police and businesses in helping to keep Clapham Junction safe for everyone who lives, works and visits the area.
