l opera singer and as the Artistic Manager and founder of London Lyric Opera. As a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and with a lifelong passion for classical music, James founded LLO in 2008 and successfully mounted several concert operas at the Barbican and Cadogan Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In his most recent position with the Tait Memorial Trust, James manages a diverse array of responsibilities from engaging international soloists, to undertaking the role of producer for many of the Trust’s regular concert seasons in London. Dedicated to nurturing talented emerging artists, James is determined to assist with the career development and ultimate success of the talented individuals he promotes. Hancock Artists is looking forward to earning a reputation as one of the leading bespoke management companies providing the knowledge and expertise required for each client to achieve their full potential.

A fascinating glimpse inside rehearsals for Philip Glass’s Waiting for the Barbarians at Nederlandse Reisopera, conducted by Alice Farnham and directed by Guy Weizman.
This short film looks at gender and casting through one of the production’s most interesting choices, mezzo-soprano Charlotte Hellekant sings Colonel Joll, a role originally written for a man.
It is a thoughtful insight into the conversations taking place behind a major new production, and into the work Alice, Guy and the company are doing as the piece takes shape.
Waiting for the Barbarians opens in Groningen on 26 September before touring the Netherlands through October.

We are delighted to welcome British dramatic mezzo-soprano Sarah-Jane Lewis .janelewis to Hancock Artists for general management.

A compelling singing actress with a rich, expansive voice, Sarah-Jane is now firmly focused on the dramatic mezzo repertoire, with roles including Eboli, Amneris, Carmen, Dalila, Erda and Waltraute.

In 2024 she was awarded Second Prize at the New York Wagner Competition, reflecting her growing affinity with the Wagner repertoire.

Sarah-Jane trained at the Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music and National Opera Studio, and has been a Link Artist at the Royal Opera House and a Jerwood Young Artist at Glyndebourne.

We are very pleased to welcome Sarah-Jane to the HA roster and look forward to this next chapter in her career.

We performed at the Barbican to 1000 school children, in Cardiff and the grand finale at the Bristol Beacon as a BBC Prom - today on Radio 3. What a humbling and joyous experience! BEN WOODWARD | BRITTEN & STRAUSS

Two major works for Hancock Artists conductor Ben Woodward this autumn.
On Sunday 4 October, Ben conducts Britten’s War Requiem at Fairfield Concert Hall, Croydon, with Regents Opera, a massed choir drawn from choral societies across the south of England and a large orchestra.

Soloists are Philippa Boyle, soprano, Andrew Tortise, tenor, and Felix Kemp, baritone.
The performance comes in the year marking 50 years since Benjamin Britten’s death.

Then on Sunday 1 November, Ben returns to Strauss, conducting a concert performance of Elektra at Blackheath Halls, presented by Regents Opera in collaboration with New Palace Opera.

The cast includes Catharine Woodward as Elektra, Karin Lovelius as Klytaemnestra, Ella de Jongh as Chrysothemis and Ashley Mercer as Orest.

From the vast architecture and emotional power of Britten’s War Requiem to the extraordinary intensity of Strauss’s Elektra, two formidable works and an exciting autumn ahead for Ben.

A wonderful review from Seen and Heard International celebrates Alice’s work with the National Open Youth Orchestra and members of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Cardiff.

Hancock Artists is delighted to share that bass Karl Huml appears as Astradamors in György Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Helsinki Chamber Choir, conducted by Nicholas Collon.
The semi-staged performances take place at Musiikkitalo, Helsinki, on 24 and 25 August 2026, as part of Helsinki Festival.
