Just over a year ago at our London Exec Round table event, a senior leader explained to me:

The P-Cycle: The pattern that keeps leaders stuck (and how to break it)

Ever found yourself in this loop?

→ You want to do something properly (Perfectionism)
→ So you’ll do it later when you’re fully prepared (Procrastination)
→ Then you feel completely overwhelmed by it all (Paralysis)
→ And convince yourself something’s fundamentally wrong with you (Perpetuation)

Three weeks of "I'm about to start" is a signal, not a character flaw.

A week or so ago I posted looking for help with something I'd been circling with for a while...

The universe delivered—lots and lots...and lots of brilliant people reached out, and I've found two absolute stars to work with Laura Gwynne Rahim Dad.

So now I'm writing this post. The one I've been "about to write" for a few weeks weeks.

So, here's the the thing: I coach Executives and Leaders on exactly this pattern. Yet, I'm human too. Even when you know what's happening, you can still get stuck in it. Sometimes we all just need someone to give us a gentle shove.

Because here's what I've realised: I was stuck in what I call the P-Cycle.

Perfectionism → "I'll do it properly"
Procrastination → "I'll wait until I can do it properly"
Paralysis → "I've left it so long, I'm completely overwhelmed"
Perpetuation → "See? I never follow through. Something's wrong with me."

Your nervous system has confused performance with safety. You've taught yourself that only perfect ex*****on equals worth. So when you can't guarantee perfection, you protect yourself by not starting at all.

The way out isn't motivation. It's imperfect action.

Not the complete plan. Not the polished version. Not waiting until you feel ready or confident or certain.

Start messy. Start clunky. Start with "good enough for today."

This is leadership—of yourself, your work, your life. It's choosing action over analysis, and reality over the story fear 'might be' telling you.

If you've been circling the same task for weeks, this is your permission to begin badly...just go for it...

The way out isn't motivation. It's action.
