Aarven

Aarven Meaning 'friend of the people', AARVEN is an ethical homeware and jewellery brand based in Margate.

Sustainability and ethical production is at the heart of what we do. At AARVEN we produce all of our collections in collaboration with small-scale artisan groups. Elevating their craft and providing access to the international market. The nature of the global supply chain means our decisions as consumers affect people all around the world. At AARVEN we strive to create products which bring as much

joy to their creator as they do to the end customer through sustainable and ethical production. Founded by two friends, craft development expert, Bee Friedmann and designer, Amy Fleuriot-Reade who met whilst walking their dogs Hiro and Wolf in London in London in 2011. The pair quickly discovered a common love for design, animals, and sustainability and set off together on a 6 week adventure to East Africa. It was this trip that provided the inspiration to start AARVEN (formerly Artisans & Adventurers). The brand now works in close collaboration with over 30 artisans across Africa and in India.

If you are in the Manchester area do stop by and visit their shop and gallery where they have some incredible exhibitions currently on from Japanese prints to trees in art and a new exhibition by contemporary artist Michaela Yearwood-Dan. We are already planning our visit!!

I'm really excited to share our newest designs from Ghana. I loved collaborating on these colourful hand carved pieces with Abdulai and his team in Accra. They're a great example of my passion for combining traditional craftsmanship with AARVEN's contemporary colour palette to come up with something rooted in the culture where they were crafted but bold enough to compliment a modern interior scheme.

Introducing our new mini sun masks and crocodile masks โ€” hand carved from false rubber tree wood and painted by hand in the most wonderful colours. Fluoro pink, tonal blues and our favourite warm mustard and orange.

The mini sun masks are new โ€” at 30cm across, they're the perfect size for a children's bedroom, a gallery wall, or anywhere that needs something beautiful and a bit joyful. The crocodile masks are a new colourway release on an old favourite.
I've been working with Abdulai's team for several years and every time a new shipment arrives I'm reminded of what makes his pieces so special โ€” the precision of the carving, the confidence of the colour and the beauty in every one being slightly different, reflecting the skilled hands that carved it.

They're live on the website now here: https://aarven.com/collections/summer-sun-edit
