We enjoyed a beautiful walk, plenty of fresh air, and lots of lovely conversation along the way. It was one of those simple moments that makes a day feel extra special. 😊🍂

What a lovely afternoon out with Derek 💜
We headed out for lunch, and there was no need to travel all the way to Jeremy Clarkson’s pub to sample his delicious award-winning Hawkstone pie — we were able to enjoy it right here at the Cotton Mill, where they’re serving it! 🥧😋

Derek enjoyed a couple of bitters while we settled in and watched the football, with plenty of laughs along the way. ⚽🍻😂

A really enjoyable afternoon filled with good food, football, plenty of laughs and great company. ❤️

It’s afternoons like this that make companionship so enjoyable! 😊

❤️ It’s the little things that can mean so much ❤️
Today I took my lovely client Hilary to her late-afternoon appointment at Boots Hearing Care. On the way home, I remembered how much she loves having her favourite Chinese takeaway, but because she can’t manage to get one for herself, it’s something she rarely gets to enjoy.

So, on the way home, I popped into the Chinese and picked up a lovely meal for us both. 🥡🥢

We arrived home, got ourselves cosy and out of the rain, and enjoyed our Chinese together. Instead of simply dropping Hillary home and heading off at the end of my working day, I chose to stay for a while and enjoy the evening with her. it was lovely. ❤️
This is what home help and companionship is all about. It’s not always the big things — sometimes it’s a favourite meal, a warm home, a bit of conversation, a laugh, and simply having someone there to share it with.

I’m so grateful that my work allows me to make these little moments part of someone’s day. 🥰🏡❤️

Today was all about the start of helping Jane make her bedroom feel fresh and new! 🎨💗
We popped to the local paint shop, and Jane had great fun choosing the perfect colour for her room. She was so happy to find exactly what she wanted! 🥰

🌿🐦 A lovely day out at Westport Lake 🐦🌿
Today I took Joyce out for a lovely trip to Westport Lake. We enjoyed a peaceful walk around the lake, taking in the beautiful surroundings and spotting lots of different birds along the way. 🦆🪿

There were plenty of geese around — and they certainly weren’t shy about making themselves heard! 😂 We were also lucky enough to spot two beautiful herons during our walk. 🪿🪶

After all that walking, we finished our visit with a lovely coffee and a delicious slice of coffee and walnut cake. ☕🍰 The perfect way to round off a lovely afternoon together.

It’s days like these that make my companionship work so special — getting out, enjoying the fresh air, having a chat, making memories and simply enjoying each other’s company. ❤️

💕 Keeping the companionship going… 💕
Barbara is currently enjoying a couple of weeks of respite at Belong Village, and her family asked if I would continue to pop in and spend some time with her while she’s there — of course I said yes! 🥰

This week we’ve enjoyed a lovely coffee and cake together in the Bistro ☕️🍰, followed by another visit filled with a crossword, plenty of chatting and catching up. 🧩💬

🧩❤️ A little game of dominoes with Iris…

Today I enjoyed some lovely one-to-one time with Iris, playing a game of dominoes together. 🁫😊
It might seem like a simple game, but moments like this can be so meaningful. Games such as dominoes can encourage concentration, recognition, decision-making and memory, while also providing a wonderful opportunity for conversation, laughter and connection.

For me, caring for someone living with dementia is about much more than completing daily tasks. It’s about getting to know the person behind the diagnosis, understanding what they enjoy, and finding ways to keep them engaged and involved. ❤️

Iris did a brilliant job, and more importantly, we had fun! Sometimes it’s the simplest activities that create the happiest moments. 🥰

This is why I believe meaningful activities should be part of dementia care — because every person deserves to feel valued, included and connected. 💜

💐 Feeling very appreciated today 💐
It’s little moments like this that remind me why I love what I do. ❤️

On Saturday, there was a little unexpected emergency, and I was more than happy to pop over and check in on my client at the drop of a hat to help. The family had already travelled over 50 miles to visit and had only just arrived home, so being able to step in and give them a little reassurance and support meant they didn’t have to turn around and make the journey back.

Supporting not only my clients but their families too is such an important part of what I do, and I’m always happy to help where I can. ❤️

When I visited yesterday, I was so touched to be given this beautiful bouquet of flowers and the loveliest thank-you card from the family. 💐

I never expect anything in return, so thoughtful gestures like this really do mean so much. It’s lovely to know that the care and support I give is appreciated.

Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers and kind words — they truly made my day! 🥰💐❤️

🥚 Egg safety update for older people ❤️
As a self-employed carer for the elderly, I’ve been keeping up to date with the latest advice around the current Salmonella concerns and eggs.
There is no need to stop eating eggs, but older people are more vulnerable to becoming seriously unwell from Salmonella, so it’s worth taking a little extra care.

⚠️ Foods that can contain raw or lightly cooked egg include:

🥚 Runny or undercooked eggs
🥄 Fresh mayonnaise
🥣 Homemade sauces and dressings
🍋 Hollandaise or Béarnaise sauce
🍰 Some mousses and desserts
🍨 Some homemade ice creams
🍰 Some cakes or desserts made with uncooked egg
☕ Foods or drinks where raw egg has been added

If you are unsure where the eggs have come from, it is safest to choose thoroughly cooked egg or pasteurised egg products.

British Lion and Laid in Britain eggs can still be used for raw or lightly cooked dishes, but good food hygiene is always important.
