Last month Rosie attended the South West CIOF Conference in Exeter.

Below, she shares 3 helpful reminders to boost your Trust Fundraising.

A no from a funder isn't always a no. If your cause and work aligns with a local family trust's aims, a polite follow up can lead you towards future funding.

Stewarding, looking after your funders, is vital for charities to do. Consider drawing attention to relevant parts of your impact report when corresponding with funders.

When applying for multi-year funding, think about your charities sustainability. I.e. is it better for your charity to apply for funding over 1, 2 or 3 years. Note that when applying to new funders, some will only accept 1 year funding for first time applications.

These learnings are taken from the “Think Like a Funder” session Rosie attended at the recent Chartered Institute of Fundraising South West Conference.

Which idea are you going to use next?

Rosie's Top Tip!

You’ve written a funding bid and are ready to hit submit.... Pause!.

Two heads are better than one.

Here at MMC Marsha and I often review each other’s bids before submitting. We find this help us to step away from the detail, think as a funder and see how things read for the first time.

Warm and Welcoming

We are relatable, personable, and approachable. We strive to be accessible and non-corporate in what we do, creating an environment where people feel comfortable and valued.

An example of this is how we hold our monthly check in calls with our clients. These regular calls are designed to enable us to share and discuss progress with our clients. We discuss any blocks and suggest new ideas of opportunities , however we always endeavour to begin these calls with some social time.

To learn about our clients real lives, what has been happening for them, so we can listen and respond with care and consideration. We use Teams where we can, this allows for real time chat with our clients. 90% of this is work related, but we enjoy sharing pictures of pets, cakes and sharing the odd joke.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Take action in your community

Mental health isn’t just individual—it’s shaped by the environments we work and live in.

Taking action as a team or organisation might look like:
– Creating space for open conversations about wellbeing
– Setting realistic expectations and boundaries
– Encouraging breaks and modelling them at leadership level
– Checking in regularly, not just when things go wrong

Culture is built through everyday behaviours.

When people feel safe, supported and valued, it changes how teams function—and how individuals cope.

What’s one small change your team could make this week to support wellbeing?

Mental Health Awareness Week

Take action for someone else

Taking action for someone else doesn’t mean fixing things.

It can be as simple as:
– Asking “How are you, really?” and meaning it
– Listening without jumping in with solutions
– Sending a quick message to someone you haven’t heard from
– Noticing when someone seems quieter than usual

In busy workplaces, especially in the charity sector, people carry a lot—often quietly.

A small moment of genuine connection can make someone feel seen, valued and less alone.

You don’t need the perfect words. Just being present is enough.

MMC are supporting Mental Health Awareness Week - 10th to 17th May 26

This year's theme is around taking action, for ourselves, for others and for the whole community.

Take action for yourself

Taking action for your mental health doesn’t have to be big or complicated.

Often, it’s the small, consistent choices that make the biggest difference:
– Stepping away from your desk for 10 minutes
– Saying no when your capacity is full
– Getting outside, even briefly
– Checking in with how you’re actually feeling

If you work in a role where you support others, it’s easy to put yourself last. But your wellbeing isn’t a luxury—it’s what enables you to keep showing up.

This week, choose one small action just for you. Something realistic. Something you’ll actually do. That’s where it starts.

One action we enjoy at work and home is the action of walking the dog - no matter the weather, this little habit is an important part of our routine. It get's us outside, out of our thoughts, away from the desk and nearer to nature..

What action is important to your wellbeing?

As we prepare to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week next week, I felt it a good time to begin sharing some coaching resources.

When I am coaching charity leaders, one of the things that often helps them is a way to record their goals and progress.

One of the key areas that we start with, is around exploring values. This easy to access Growth Action Plan helps by providing a place to record new ideas and thoughts, as well as identifying what support they have around them.
