The clocks went back an hour on Sunday. ⏰

Your phone probably changed the time automatically.
But what about the kitchen clock?
Or the clock beside the bed?
The microwave or oven clock?
The central heating timer?

These are little things that are easy to forget, especially when everything else carries on as usual.

If you're popping in to see an older loved one this week, take a few minutes to check their clocks and heating settings.

After all, nobody wants to wonder why the heating hasn't come on when the house is getting chilly!

A small job worth doing while you're there. 💙

Your care needs assessment might happen to fall on one of your better days.

But that doesn’t mean the difficult days should be left out.

Like the days when standing long enough to cook becomes painful.

Or when bathing takes so much effort that you need to sit down halfway through.

If you or someone you care for has a council care needs assessment coming up, note what's difficult, how often it happens, and what help family members already provide.

It’s easy to forget those details when someone asks you on the spot, particularly when you're feeling better than usual.

Our latest blog explains how to prepare for a care needs assessment, what happens during it and what to expect afterwards.

Anyone who may need support can ask for a free care needs assessment. Find out how to request one, how to prepare and what happens afterwards.

Can a carer take Dad to his GP appointment?

What if Mum just needs help making lunch and picking up the shopping?

And can someone simply pop in for a chat when the afternoons get a bit too quiet?

Most people think of washing and dressing first when they hear about home care.

But home carers can do much more, like reminding you about medication, helping with household chores, going out, attending appointments, or just keeping you company.

What a carer does really depends on the person and the kind of help they need.

Our latest blog explains what home carers do and what you can expect when you arrange support.

If you've ever wondered, "Can I ask a home carer to help with that?", this is a good place to start.

Caring for someone you love can slowly take over more of your week than you realise.

You cancel your own plans because your mum needs your help.

You stop making plans because you are not sure if your dad will need you.
You avoid going far from home because you always need to be available.
After a while, you might not even remember the last time you had an afternoon just for yourself.

You do not have to wait until you are worn out to ask for respite care.
Respite care can be a few hours of help, a regular afternoon each week, or short-term care while you take a break.

Your loved one will still get the support they need at home, and you will have time to do something you have been putting off.

Sometimes, letting someone else help for a while lets you spend more time just being their daughter, son, partner, or family member again.

October 13 is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. 🎀

And today, let’s talk about the women who need more than pink ribbons.
The mothers who are fighting to see their children grow up.
The women who are making memories while quietly wondering how many more they’ll get to make.
The wives who want more anniversaries.
The daughters who aren’t ready to say goodbye to their parents.
The women who look perfectly healthy on the outside but are fighting for their lives on the inside.
Metastatic breast cancer is stage IV breast cancer. It has spread beyond the breast to other parts of the body. And while treatments can help people live longer, there is currently no cure.
These women don’t just want awareness.
They want more birthdays.
More bedtime stories.
More family vacations.
More ordinary Tuesdays.
More LIFE.

Because behind every pink ribbon is a human being who deserves a future.
This October 13, let’s do more than wear pink. Let’s advocate for research, better treatments, and a cure.

For every woman living with metastatic breast cancer, and every family loving her through it. 💗

Awareness matters. But more time matters even more.

A rainy autumn week can subtly shift someone’s daily routine.

Mum stays in because it’s pouring outside.
Dad puts off the weekly shopping trip.
The trip into town is postponed for another day.
And then another day passes.

For someone who doesn’t go out much to begin with, a few cancelled plans can soon mean spending several days at home.

It’s easy to overlook because nothing big has changed.
Their world just quietly shrinks a little.
If you see this happening, a little support can make a difference.

A carer could help with shopping, stop by for a chat, or go out with your loved one when the weather is better.
Sometimes, simple routines can make the biggest difference in someone’s week.

Many families wait longer than they have to before reaching out for help.

Often, it’s because they care deeply, and asking someone else to help just doesn’t feel right.

So they keep trying to manage on their own.

One person does the shopping.
Someone else pops in after work.
Weekend plans are often rearranged.
The phone stays close in case Mum or Dad needs something.
And everyone tells themselves, “We can manage for now.”

But eventually, managing starts to take over everything else.

Home care doesn’t have to mean giving up control.
Sometimes, it just means having someone visit a few times a week, so the family doesn’t have to handle every part of the day alone.

Asking for a bit of help can make it easier for everyone to keep going.

🏡 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞?

This International Day of Older People 2026 we’re looking outside the front door to celebrate the people, places, and services that help older adults stay active, independent, and connected to our local community.

Staying connected isn't always easy for example transport barriers, physical access, or simply knowing where to turn can make getting out tough. But right here in Northampton, we are fortunate to have fantastic local organizations dedicated to making our town age-friendly:

🔹 Age UK Northamptonshire – Day centers, befriending, home help, and social activity groups.

🔹 Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire – Supporting local connections through the Happy@Home befriending scheme and the Volunteer Car Scheme.

🔹 Northamptonshire Carers – Advice, peer support, and respite care for those looking after elderly family members.

🔹 SERVE – Providing community transport and independence-focused activities across the county.

🔹 NHFT Memory Assessment Service & Memory Cafés – Direct support, advice, and community groups for those living with memory challenges.

🔹 West Northamptonshire Council Community Directory – Connecting residents to local lunch clubs, accessible transport routes, and community hubs.

At Clarity Homecare we’re passionate about helping our clients not only receive high-quality support at home, but also safely navigate and enjoy the rich community right outside their door. 💙
