We are delighted to be offering Part I of the private collection of renowned carpet and textile dealer, collector and scholar Christopher Legge.

We recently visited Christopher at his shop in Summertown, Oxford and sat down with him for a fascinating conversation about a lifetime spent with rugs and textiles: from how it all began, to his travels and adventures through Iran and Turkey, and the research and learning that have underpinned his work.

Mallams has known Christopher for many years, making it a particular pleasure to be entrusted with his private collection. Many of these pieces were acquired alongside his commercial work, not simply to collect, but to study, compare and learn from- forming a personal research collection developed over many years.

Christopher was incredibly generous with his knowledge and stories during our visit, and there is much more to share. We’ll be releasing further films from our conversation in the build-up to the sale.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for last week’s House & Garden Sale in Abingdon.

Here, Henry is selling a copy of the famous bust of Nefertiti, signed to the side by O. Herzog. One of the many fascinating lots that went under the hammer over the two-day sale.

We are now accepting entries for our next House & Garden Sale this September. If you have something you are considering selling, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

The upcoming Collective Sale of Jewellery, Silver and Accessories at Mallams, Oxford, will offer fashion enthusiasts an opportunity to acquire vintage clothing from one of the city’s most iconic boutiques, Annabelinda.
Few independent fashion boutiques have left such a lasting impression on Oxford as Annabelinda. Founded in 1971 by Anita Woodhead and Belinda O’Hanlon, the boutique became one of Britain’s most celebrated independent fashion labels during the 1970s, combining handcrafted quality with a distinctly English, romantic style.
Annabelinda achieved national recognition, appearing in Vogue and being stocked by Liberty & Co. and Harrods in London.

Alongside the Annabelinda garments, the auction also includes further original 1970s dresses, including designs by David Butler and Jane Allen, giving vintage fashion lovers the opportunity to own authentic examples of this enduringly popular era of design.
The sale also features a selection of designer handbags by Mulberry, Gucci and Aspinal, alongside a remarkable sequinned jacket reputedly created for the legendary ballerina Margot Fonteyn.

The Collective Sale is an online timed auction, which will run until August 6th.
Viewing will take place at the Oxford saleroom on 3rd and 4th. August, 10:00 AM - 04:00

Pictured: Lot 361, an Annabelinda dress with matching jacket; Lot 401, a Mulberry ‘Bayswater’ bag; and Lot 383, a vintage beaded jacket reputedly made for Margot Fonteyn.
