When Keith Oliver and Jon McDermott set up TPX way back in 2012 it was based on a simple set of statements. So we thought we would share them with you. Because the Planning System should work for us! By us, we mean everyone however the system has become so entrenched in personality, grey areas and ambiguity that it is barely fit for purpose and whilst the NPPF has attempted to make it better the r

eality is that the planning system we have today needs a dramatic overhaul. Because it’s about our clients, not us! Our clients come first and so do their best interests. That means we will never be afraid not to take a case, never be afraid to say no! It also means that we will never sell an education product or service to the wrong person at the wrong time. Because development can do better! Development can and must do a better job. Knocking down an old building just because it is in the way is unethical. Ramming too many poor-quality flats in a building is wrong. Through our developments, we will do this right!

1. Accredited provider - Our first accreditation as TPX becomes an Accredited Training Organisation.

2. Accredited trainer - Our second accreditation as Jon McDermott becomes an accredited CPD Trainer.

3. Accredited activity - Our Victory course holds a CPD Accreditation allowing for 8 hours CPD credit to be claimed by anyone attending and completing the programme. This has been renewed until July 2027.

A MAJOR PLANNING UPDATE: The window of opportunity is OPEN 🚨

With this new update our very own Jon McDermott gives his expert verdict on the new planning policy framework:

The new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) is live, introducing National Decision-Making Policies (NDMPs).

At the same time, the latest Housing Delivery Test (HDT) results have landed: 115 local planning authorities are now in presumption in favour of sustainable development.

What this means for developers, landowners, and investors:

⚫ The Tilted Balance is Active: In 115 council areas, planning permission should now be granted unless adverse impacts significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits.
⚫ Standardised NDMPs: National Decision-Making Policies streamline assessments across the board, reducing local friction and outdated policy resistance.
⚫ Unlocking Marginal & Non-Allocated Sites: Edge-of-settlement land and previously stalled schemes now hold a much stronger policy position.If you have land with development potential or a delayed scheme, now is the time to use the planning system to its fullest.
