Tonight saw me out on a local farm assisting with some rats for the first time this Autumn. A relatively short session but ended on 13 shot and 9 picked up as the others fell back in their holes or were out of reach. Better shot than left to run riot however and continue breeding. I'll be out again soon and will visit this farmers second property where I'm told there are plenty of rats needing controlling as well as feral pigeons which are making a right mess.

This little so and so gave me the run around this last week. All the same traps, all the same techniques that have always worked and even going above and beyond the usual in my setting methods and he finally fell for it today. Some days he hadn't been back to the garden. Others he had pushed soil ahead of himself and triggered the trap but I stuck with it and caught him for the homeowner. Not had one take this long for a while so it was satisfying to get the result in the end.

On farms its far easier to just set lots of traps in multiple tunnels and clear them quickly that way but, as this was a lovely residential garden with a nice lawn, I really didn't want to go digging it up all over the place. All holes were backfilled and the grass laid back down and hopefully the owner can enjoy it for a while before the next one moves in!

One of this weeks jobs is to catch a wily little mole that is causing some headache to a local property owner and ruining their lawn. Its always a little tricky in a residential garden as the last thing I want to do is try to place loads of traps and end up doing more damage than the mole is doing itself.

I had a trap set up which got back filled so I have changed tact and set up two. One in a deep main run alongside the hedgeline and another between two hills that it seems to be using. Fingers crossed this will be its undoing when I check them tomorrow!

I had an excellent evening this evening flighting teal and keeping those sh***un skills dialled in. Not many came in as the winds were low and they seemed to prefer a larger body of water, but got 4 lovely birds which are now prepped and ready for the table. Makes a change from pest control and there really is nothing better than being in the wild and chasing such a challenging quarry. Wild healthy meat has no equal and they don't half zip in quick!

Another grey squirrel removed for a local lady today bringing the total to 8 for this small garden in around a week. Not bad going at all. Particularly as they are being taken away to despatch meaning the number of traps active at any one time is going up and down.

It was success again yesterday at a local ladies house where we were able to trap a further 3 grey squirrels from her garden. Bringing the total to 6 from just two visits. It is very refreshing to meet someone who shares the understanding that we really must try to control grey numbers and aim to eradicate them from areas in order to give our native red squirrel some hope of survival in the future. Otherwise we may witness the extinction of them in the wild if we don't keep the pressure up.

If you need assistance with grey squirrel removal please get in touch. This service is free.

Mission success this morning with 3 grey squirrels trapped within less than 24 hours! This just shows the effectiveness of these traps when placed carefully. I'm sure the lady is very happy and we can now reset on Monday after the weekend and clear some more.

Today saw me out and about assisting a local lady who was in need of grey squirrel control in her garden after moving to a new property and seeing the numbers totally out of hand. I set up four discreet traps in tunnels and we now wait with baited breath for the first catches.

The local songbird population will almost certainly benefit from a reduction in numbers and as always we have the native red squirrels in mind when doing any kind of grey control as every grey removed goes some small way to helping eventually take territory back for the native reds. If only we had more like minded ladies around who could see the benefit of controlling this invasive species. We would stand a much stronger chance of safeguarding a future for our nations reds.
