Your savings balance might be growing…
But is your money keeping up with inflation?

We often think of saving money as making progress, and it absolutely can be.
But there’s another side to consider: what your money will actually buy in the future.

Inflation means that, over time, the cost of goods and services tends to rise. So even if the amount in your savings account stays the same, its purchasing power can fall.

For example, imagine you have £10,000 in savings. If prices rise by 3% over a year, you would need around £10,300 the following year to buy the same things.

That doesn't mean cash savings are a bad thing. They're important for emergencies, short-term plans and money you need easy access to.

It simply means different types of savings have different purposes.
For money you won't need for several years, it may be worth considering how it fits into your wider financial plans and whether cash alone is appropriate.

The important thing is to think about what your money needs to do, not just how much is sitting in the account.

🎃 Don’t let your financial future become a horror story.

A financial plan isn’t just about what happens today it’s about making sure you’re prepared for what comes next.

From retirement and pensions to investments, protection, savings and estate planning, having a clear plan can help you understand where you are now and where you want to be in the future.

Whether you’re building your wealth, planning for retirement or simply want to know you’re on the right track, the right advice can help bring your plans into focus.

👻 Because the future shouldn’t be something to fear it should be something you can plan for.

The Autumn Budget is due to be announced this week, and there are several areas I’ll be watching closely.

As a financial adviser, I’m particularly interested in what any announcements could mean for individuals, families, business owners and those planning for retirement.

Here’s what I’ll be looking out for:
• Income tax – any changes to rates, allowances or thresholds
• Capital Gains Tax – potential changes and what this could mean for investors and property owners
• Inheritance Tax – any further changes to the rules or allowances
• Pensions – changes that could affect pension contributions, tax relief or retirement planning
• ISAs & savings – whether there are any changes to allowances or incentives
• Business & business owners – potential changes to taxation and planning opportunities
• National Insurance & other personal taxes – anything that could impact take-home income

Of course, until the Chancellor stands up and delivers the Budget, there is plenty of speculation, so it’s important not to make financial decisions based purely on headlines.

I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the key announcements after the Budget, including what they could actually mean for your financial plans.

This month has been a really busy month for me, with lots of new businesses, individuals and families looking for financial advice.

I’ve been spending lots of time getting to know people, understanding what they’re working towards and helping them make sense of the financial side of things.

Every person and every business is completely different, so there’s never a one-size-fits-all conversation.
Some people are starting to think seriously about retirement, some are growing their business, and others simply want to get a better handle on where they are financially.

Lots of different conversations, lots of coffee ☕️ and plenty to keep me busy!

It’s easy to build up different pension pots throughout your working life particularly if you’ve changed jobs and had a workplace pension with each employer.

You might have:
📌 An old workplace pension
📌 A current workplace pension
📌 A personal pension
📌 Small pension pots you’ve simply lost track of

And it can leave you asking…

“Where are all my pensions, how much are they worth, and are they still working for me?”

The answer isn't necessarily to combine everything into one pot, consolidation isn't right for everyone and needs to be considered carefully.

But knowing what you have is a great place to start.

🎓 SJP Graduation 2026 - I’m feeling very proud of this one!

After working in hospitality management for many years, I always had a real interest in the business side understanding how businesses work, looking at the numbers and helping things grow.
Making the move into financial advice was a big career change, but, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Over the last couple of years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many amazing businesses, families and individuals, helping people understand their finances, make confident decisions and start planning for the future they want.

I’ve learnt so much along the way, met some brilliant people and discovered just how much I love what I do.
I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported me through the journey so far - my family, friends, colleagues, clients and everyone who has encouraged me along the way.

Excited to see what comes next!

But what does that mean for you?

There’s no magic number when it comes to savings. The right amount depends on your income, outgoings, lifestyle and financial goals.

A good place to start is asking yourself:

💰 Do I have enough set aside for unexpected expenses?
🏡 Am I saving towards my short and medium-term goals?
📈 Is my money in the right place for what I want it to achieve?
🔎 When did I last review my savings strategy?

Saving is important but making sure your money is working appropriately for your goals is just as important.

What difference could an extra £50 or £100 a month make to your pension?

It’s one of those questions that’s easy to put off.

You might think:

“I’ll increase it when I earn more.”
“I’ve got too many other expenses right now.”
“Surely an extra £50 won’t make much difference?”

But small increases can add up.

For example, an extra £100 a month means £1,200 more going into your pension each year - before taking any applicable tax relief, employer contributions or investment growth into account.

And over 10 years, that’s £12,000 of additional contributions before growth.

Of course, whether increasing your contribution makes sense depends on your circumstances, affordability, pension scheme and wider financial plans. Pension tax rules also have limits and can be more complicated than they first appear.

So perhaps the better question isn't:

“Should I put more into my pension?”

It’s:

“What could increasing my contribution realistically do for my future?”

If you're confused about your pension or simply haven't looked at it for a while, sometimes the first step is just having a conversation.

The Autumn Budget is coming… but should you be doing anything differently with your money right now?

With the Budget coming up on 28th October, there’s already plenty of conversation, opinions and predictions flying around.

It can be tempting to read the headlines and immediately think:

“Should I change something?”
“Should I move my money?”
“Should I do something with my pension before the Budget?”

My advice to clients is always the same:

Don’t panic. Take a breath.

A Budget is important, but your financial plan shouldn’t be built around reacting to every headline or rumour.

Your finances are personal - what makes sense for one person may not make sense for another.

So, as we head towards the Budget, what are your thoughts?

Are you interested in what might be announced, or are you trying to switch off from all the speculation? 👇
