These are just a few of the feedback comments we got from the team after our latest teambuilding adventure to the Seaweed Festival of Wales, in Pembrokeshire:

Amanda – "Knowledge is power when it comes to seaweed, it’s in everything, even toothpaste or clothing. People think of seaweed and they think slimy, sushi… but once you come to understand it, it opens a whole new world."

Isla – “Being surrounded by such knowledge, passion and community during our time at the Seaweed Festival was inspiring. I've learnt that making the shift to reincorporate seaweed into our daily lives is an important one!”

Catrina – “My favourite part of the Pembs Seaweed Festival was watching a short film, created by WWF, surrounded by the community it featured. The local ethos is so dedicated to and respectful of the sea, it was wonderful to see the wild waters through their eyes.”

There’s clearly something for everyone! Thanks so much to Jess and the team at Câr-Y-Môr, along with Pobl Tir y Mor, Pembrokeshire Beach food company, Really Wild Emporium, WWF Cymru, PEBL, and the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) for all their hard work and organising such an interesting an insightful event.

We’ve been part of the Welsh seaweed scene since our inception and we sell our beautiful Môr paper at the Câr-Y-Môr shop in Pembrokeshire too, so we were very proud to be in Cardigan Bay supporting such a valuable project focussed on helping people see the true power of seaweed.

Our film isn't completely clear the way petrochemical film is. It carries a slightly natural hue, like natural linen or fresh pine wood.

What counts for more: a 100% biobased film, made from a renewable material, that drops straight onto your existing machinery? Or a clear plastic film, made from oil, and under growing regulatory scrutiny?

We're finishing our biggest pellet production run yet.

Brown seaweed becomes extract, extract becomes polymer, and this summer that polymer became our largest batch of pellets yet, ready for casting.

Next comes the part we've been building towards: our first commercial rolls of film. All hands on deck, with our new team members right in the thick of it.

And we're already scaling further, with backing from the Henry Royce Institute through its Industrial Collaboration Programme. More on that soon.

Our aim isn't just to produce plastic-free polymers & films, but to deliver technologies that can meet the functional performance expectations of existing applications while giving manufacturers another viable option - and consumers the choice of plastic-free without added cost or inconvenience.

It's the question we hear most. So here's our answer.

Our seaweed-derived polymer is a like-for-like replacement for PVOH. The important part is what changes when you switch: nothing.

Your process stays the same. Your product stays the same. Your standards stay the same.

Packaging is where a lot of our work meets the real world, so we are really looking forward to returning to London Packaging Week this year!

Shekinah and Paula will be at ExCeL London on the 16th of September, meeting brands, suppliers and anyone rethinking what their packaging is made of.

Our film is engineered for applications including laundry and dishwasher capsules, dissolvable sachets (for products such as single-dose cleaning refills, shampoo bars, detergents), with ongoing refinement for multiple other industries including food, home care, personal care, agriculture and cosmetics.

We make our film polymer for laundry and dishwasher capsules from seaweed. It's plastic-free, it performs to the same standards as conventional film, and it's designed with its full environmental footprint in mind, from the water it grows in to the wash cycle it ends up in.

We're creating an alternative because consumers deserve a choice. The same performance, the same price point and a new, greener chapter for our planet.
