⚠️ DSLs: Don’t overlook children in kinship care.

The Department for Education has updated its statutory guidance on kinship care, including new national kinship standards.

DSLs need to be aware not only of their responsibilities towards children in care, but also of children being cared for by grandparents, relatives, family friends or other connected people.

Are these children visible within your safeguarding arrangements?

Are their needs being recognised and monitored?

Do staff understand what kinship care may look like?

We have very sad news to share. Julie Train, one of our teaching team died suddenly on 25th August 2026 leaving behind her partner Neil and daughters Rosie and Molly.
Many of our learners will have worked with Julie to gain their qualifications and the feedback from you was exceptional, recognising her knowledge, care and support. As a colleague Julie was fantastic to work with, fun and enthusiastic, we will all miss her very much.
