One hour won’t change everything. I’ll be straight about that.

But one hour can make things clearer. It can mean walking in knowing:
What the exam is actually asking.
How long to spend on each question.
What to do first when your mind goes blank.

🚀That’s my Power Hour. A one-off session to get you ready.

⭐️I’m running them online on Sunday 1st November. Two days before the first paper, so it’s fresh in your head⭐️

It’s for 16- to 18-year-olds going for a grade 4 in GCSE English Language who want to
feel steadier, not panicked.

I can’t guarantee a grade, and you’ll need to do the work. But you’ll leave with clear,
practical tips and a bit more confidence that you can do this. 🤩

Got a grade 2 or 3 in GCSE English Language this summer? 🧐

The November resit is closer than it feels…

This is for you, if you’re 16-18 and need that grade 4 to progress to your next steps. AND it’s also for you, if you’re the parent who’s noticed your son or daughter has gone very quiet about it. 🤐

It’s not too late to try.

I’m a qualified teacher in Staffordshire, and I work with resit students online, one to one or in small groups. Teams, no travelling, everyone in their own space. 🧘‍♀️

So, what changes?

You know what the exam is asking.
You know how long to spend on each question.
And, you walk in feeling ready, not dreading it. ⭐️

I can’t promise a grade 4. You’ll have to practise, and I’ll say so plainly. BUT, I’ll give you every skill you need to go in and go for it. 🚀

A student I worked with this year, went from a grade 2 & 3 to a 4 & 6 for English Literature and Language 🤩

Every time you mention English, the shutters come down. Or it’s “I’m fine, it’s fine.”

So, you leave it. You don’t want a row. You don’t want to make it worse.

But it’s still there, isn’t it? That little knot in your stomach when you think about the exam. 😬

About what happens without a grade 4. About college, or A levels, and whether the door’s going to stay open.

Maybe they got a grade 2 or 3 last summer and now it’s a resit. Maybe they are in Year 11 and you’re hoping it’ll all click by itself.

Often, they have lost their confidence, or nobody has shown them what the exam actually wants.

That can be fixed. Slowly, one step at a time, with a bit of nurture and a lot of practice.💜

The last session of the day done ✅

Tonight was a new student for GCSE Business.

We started with a game- think “You Say, We Pay” if anyone remembers that Richard and Judy classic 😂 but for Business key terms.

We then looked at areas the student felt confident in, before addressing any gaps in their knowledge 🧠 and discussed a plan to move forward.

This week, I will create tailor made sessions to support my learner on their GCSE journey 🗾

📚 For YEAR 11 GCSE English Parents 📚

GCSE English Language isn’t just about writing long answers and analysing complicated texts. Before you get to that stage, you need to know what to say.

Sometimes, going back to the basics can make a HUGE difference👇
I’ve really noticed a difference in the students who know these and the students who don’t.

Can your child confidently explain what these are?

🔹 Noun: a person, place, thing or idea
e.g Francesca, France, Fence or Freedom

🔹 Verb: a doing/action word
e.g Running

🔹 Adjective: a word that describes a noun
e.g Blue coat

🔹 Simile: comparing using like or as
e.g As tall as a giraffe

🔹 Metaphor: saying something is something else to create a comparison
e.g The world is a stage

🔹 Personification: giving human qualities to something non-human
e.g The sun smiled on the meadow

🔹 Alliteration: repetition of the same sound at the beginning of words
e.g She sells seashells on the seashore

And here’s why these basics matter:

When a GCSE question asks a student to identify a technique, analyse language, or explain the effect of a writer’s choice, they need to recognise the terminology before they can confidently explain it.

So, if your Year 11 isn’t completely confident with the basics yet…

Don’t panic. Go back to them.

Getting the foundations secure now can make the more complicated GCSE skills much easier to build later. 🧱✨

I tutored this student at the start of year 11 for GCSE English and GCSE Business.
They were quiet & didn’t want to talk much.

Each week, we worked together and over time, they became more confident, chatty and even laughed at my jokes (maybe they were pretending 😂). Some might say they were even “enjoying learning”. Their grades improved and they were happier and calmer leading up to the exams.

I would check in with their class teacher and update their parents. I liaised with the local college to provide accurate information, advice and guidance to support them with their next steps.

The student passed their exams and got onto the right course 🎉 it’s now been two years and they have just completed their course with Distinctions & they are heading off to University 👏

For me, it’s not just about the results. It’s seeing the students grow in confidence, and be brave enough to get out there and try their best 🌎
