Hi everyone! 👋

I’m Jess, and I run The Test Weston, a small tutoring business supporting GCSE and home educated students in Staffordshire (all online, so I work with families further afield too!).

A bit about me: I’ve spent over 15 years working with children and young people, first as a qualified teacher and now also as a GCSE examiner.

My teaching career has taken me to some really varied settings; further education, secondary schools, an international school in Qatar, and even a women’s prison. Along the way I’ve worked with learners facing all sorts of barriers, from ESOL and neurodivergence to mental health challenges, and it’s shaped how I see education, there’s rarely a “one size fits all”approach.

Outside of teaching, I’m a bit of an adventurer at heart too…one of my favourite chapters was living and working on a cattle station out in the Australian outback! These days, I work with GCSE and home educated students on English Language, English Literature, Business Studies and Functional Skills, both 1:1 and in small groups.

I take a holistic approach, a lot of the students I work with come to me feeling stuck or unsure of themselves, often sitting around a grade 2 or 3, and what tends to shift things isn’t just more content or past papers, it’s helping them believe they actually can do this. I’ve seen so many go on to achieve their grade 4 once that confidence clicks into place 🤩

I’ve just finished my last GCSE English Language session and received the most gorgeous flowers from a lovely student 💐
