The one thing I do when struggling for content for my digital marketing is go for a walk!

It's as simple as that! No magic wands needed, or overwhelming social media training.

Removing myself from my screen enables me to switch off from my to-do list and provides me with space to think. Plus, it helps to get those steps in!

What's your magic trick when it comes to content creation?

Blogs!

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, they have a definite role to play in small businesses and organisations.

*They build trust with your audience by showing the person behind the business, not just the product or service.
*They give you something genuinely useful to share on social media, instead of scrambling for content every week.
*They keep your website fresh, which search engines and visitors both notice.
*They turn casual readers into leads, giving people a reason to stick around and get in touch.

But the hidden secret not many will talk about? They take time! You could use AI, press enter and hope for the best. However, AI not only feels inhuman with copy, but it can also (and will!) get things wrong. Do you really want your business's reputation struggling as a result of an incorrect fact or stat that your AI tool has poured out? Probably not!

A well-researched and well-crafted blog, as part of a wider digital marketing strategy, can make a huge difference in how your existing and potential clients view your business.

Today’s top tip? Make sure your blogs are crafted by someone who knows what they are doing and fit into your wider marketing strategy. If you don’t know where to begin with this, I am always happy to have a chat over a Diet Coke!

As a small business owner or charity, your inbox might be drowning, your to-do list somehow growing longer each day, or your marketing efforts pushed to the back of your mind. You don't have time and can't imagine a time when that might change.

You feel that delegating some tasks to a Virtual Assistant might help, but seriously, where do you even begin?

If any of that sounds familiar, then the latest blog on the website was written just for you!

Find out the five admin tasks you should delegate first and the impact doing so will have on your working week (seriously, the stats are amazing!).

Where does your inspiration come from?

Last week (when travelling back on the previously mentioned train), I was trying to distract myself from my new travelling neighbour, when I decided to open the notes app on my phone and jot down some ideas for upcoming social media posts.

I have short-term and long-term plans for my content, and sometimes it is harder to come up with content than at other times.

I think there is a danger of scheduling out time in your busy diary for social media, newsletter writing or blogging and when it comes to that set time, you are either too swamped to pay it any attention, and the task gets ignored, or your brain stares at a blank screen and panics. Both are likely and both are fully understandable!

So, my top tip today is to jot down notes, send yourself a voice note, stick a sticky note on your desk- whatever works for you, whenever that inspiration comes!

If you have ever wondered how to get started with your social media marketing, then worry not!

It can feel overwhelming to think about the best hook, perfect posting time, or understanding the latest algorithm update inside out.

The answer is far simpler! Turn up.

That's it!

Like posts. Leave a genuine comment. Reply to comments providing your own context. Follow accounts that make you smile and actually engage with them.

It is easy to spend so much energy trying to crack the algorithm that we can quickly forget that social media is, at its core, social.

Big news!

My flabbers were truly gasted yesterday when I opened my inbox to discover I have not only been nominated, but am a finalist at the Strategic PA Network Awards 2026!

I had no idea this was in the pipeline, so it is a wonderful surprise.

Running EH Virtual Administration Support has been a huge journey since 2021 and moments like this remind me why I absolutely love what I do!

5 signs a social media professional is actually worth following

1. They show their working. The drafts, the planning, the "this one flopped and here's why," not just the polished end result.

2. They're consistent, not just occasionally viral. One big post can happen by luck. Years of steady, useful content cannot.

3. They actually reply to comments. If someone only ever posts and disappears, that tells you something.

4. They admit what they don't know. Nobody has social media fully figured out, algorithms change constantly, and the good ones say so instead of pretending otherwise.

5. They give real advice away for free, not just enough to tease you into a course.

These are the things I try (but don't always manage!) to bring to my own page too, so it felt only fair to hold others to the same standard.

Is there anything you would add to this list?

4 metrics I'm actually keeping an eye on right now 👀

1️⃣ Profile views, not just likes. If a post makes someone curious enough to click through and check out the account, that's doing its job.

2️⃣ Engagement rate. Comments, saves and shares over follower count, every time. A smaller engaged audience beats a big quiet one.

3️⃣ Where the traffic goes. Website clicks, DMs, enquiries. This is the bit that actually matters beyond the numbers on the screen.

4️⃣ Industry trends and shifts. Staying aware of what's changing so I can stay ahead of it, for myself and the clients I support.

Vanity metrics are tempting to obsess over. These four tell me a lot more.

What's a metric you track that everyone else seems to skip? 😊

Hill I'll lie down on, (absolutely no death on hills here!) social media edition 🚩

You do not need to be everywhere.

You don't need to be on every platform going. You need to be on the ones your people actually use, and you need to show up there properly and consistently.

Trying to juggle five platforms at once is exactly how accounts go quiet (speaking from very recent personal experience 👀). Pick two, do them well, and stop feeling guilty about the rest.

What's the social media hill you'll lie down on?

3 things I wish someone had told me when I started EHVAS 👇

1️⃣ You never stop learning: whether that's a proper course, or learning things through experience and the odd webinar. I love that the learning curve doesn't flatten out, it just gets more interesting.

2️⃣ It's OK to ask for help: I tried to do it all myself for way too long before realising delegating isn't giving up control but how you actually get space to grow.

3️⃣ Find your people. Self-employment can be lonely if you let it, co-working days and my fellow self-employed friends have honestly been a lifeline. Community > working in isolation, every time.

Is there 1 thing you wish you had known when starting your business?
