This one has been grit blasted, pit welded, fitted with 100mm x 10mm steel shoes fully welded to create a new wear edge, then finished with 3 coats of 2 pack hull paint and new anodes.

A proper bit of hull protection!

Silvercrest’s hull sides were simply too far gone for a sensible repair, so she’s now being overplated with a new sacrificial edge, followed by a full grit blast and 2 pack finish.

Sometimes the right repair means going further and doing it properly.

Going into winter… how well do you actually know your hull?

A hull-only survey can give you a much clearer picture of the condition of your boat whether it’s for insurance, peace of mind, pre-purchase, or simply to help plan any work that may be needed.

Our hull-only surveys are carried out by YDSA - Yacht Designers & Surveyors Association surveyors, giving you added reassurance that the inspection is being carried out to recognised professional standards.

And with winter on the way, it’s a good time to find out now and get ahead of any repairs or maintenance before next season.

This is where we draw the line on pit welding.
Narrowboat Silvercrest is in with us for a few jobs but once we got into the hull it was clear the sides were simply too far gone for pit welding alone.

The boat is now having the hull sides overplated, a new sacrificial edge fully welded in, followed by a full grit blast and 2 pack finish.

It’s all about doing the job properly and giving the boat the protection it needs for the years ahead.

It’s been a little quiet on the Boat 318 updates lately, but there’s still plenty happening behind the scenes.

The rudder assembly is now complete, a nice bit of engineering done properly and another important stage ticked off the list.

Sometimes it’s the parts you don’t see straight away that show the workmanship best.
