🎃 HALLOWEEN – THE FINAL DAY! 🎃

Last night marked Day 20 of Gaia at Swansea Minster, and what an incredible few weeks it has been!

From the stunning sight of Luke Jerram's illuminated Earth suspended inside this historic building to the concerts, performances and thousands of visitors who have walked through the doors, it's been a real privilege for CSCM to be involved.

Today, Saturday 31st October, marks the final day of Gaia at Swansea Minster, and there's still plenty happening!

🎶 TODAY'S EVENTS

🎤 2:00pm – Swansea Bach Choir Pop-Up

An opportunity to enjoy beautiful choral music beneath Gaia.

🎹 6:00pm – All Hallows' Eve Organ Concert

Canon Graham Holcombe will perform a programme of atmospheric and powerful organ music, reflecting on the meaning and mystery of All Hallows' Eve.

The programme includes Bach's famous Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, a particularly fitting piece for Halloween!

🕯️ 9:30pm – Compline

A final service of night prayer, bringing the Gaia exhibition at Swansea Minster to a close.

🌍 DAY 19 OF GAIA – SWANSEA MINSTER 🌍

Another day beneath the Earth at Swansea Minster!

As we reach Day 19 of Gaia, we're continuing our work supporting this incredible exhibition by internationally renowned artist Luke Jerram.

Over the past 19 days, we've seen visitors of all ages come through the doors to experience something truly special. From families and schoolchildren to those simply taking a moment to admire our planet, Gaia has certainly brought something different to the heart of Swansea.

🎶 TONIGHT AT SWANSEA MINSTER – COPPERCAILLIE

Tonight, Swansea Minster welcomes Coppercaillie, a Swansea-based folk-indie ceilidh band, performing beneath Gaia.

An opportunity to enjoy live music in a rather unique setting, with our planet suspended above the performers and audience.

Gaia uses detailed NASA imagery to recreate the Earth's surface, giving visitors the opportunity to see our planet as astronauts experience it from space.

The artwork is designed to encourage people to reflect on the beauty of our planet and the importance of looking after it.

Another day at Swansea Minster as we continue supporting Luke Jerram's incredible Gaia installation.

With just a few days remaining before Gaia leaves Swansea, there's still time to visit and experience this amazing artwork for yourself.

Over the past 17 days, we've seen thousands of visitors come through the doors of Swansea Minster, taking the opportunity to see our planet from a completely different perspective.

🌍 DID YOU KNOW?

Gaia measures six metres in diameter and uses detailed NASA imagery to recreate our planet as seen from space.

The installation slowly rotates, giving visitors the opportunity to appreciate the Earth from a perspective normally reserved for astronauts.

Set against the beautiful architecture of Swansea Minster, it's certainly been something special to experience.

The building has been an important part of Swansea's history for centuries, with the present church largely dating from the 18th century. It has witnessed generations of change throughout the city and remains an important place of worship and community gathering.

Another day at the beautiful Swansea Minster as we enter Day 15 of the Gaia exhibition by internationally renowned artist Luke Jerram.

⛪ A LITTLE HISTORY OF SWANSEA MINSTER

Swansea Minster, formerly known as St Mary's Church, has been at the heart of Swansea for centuries.

The Minster has witnessed generations of change, from Swansea's growth as an industrial town to the devastation of the Second World War and the rebuilding of the city.

During the Three Nights' Blitz in February 1941, St Mary's was devastated by incendiary bombs, leaving much of the building in ruins.

Following years of reconstruction, the church was officially reopened on 28 May 1959, with Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother attending the service.

More recently, on 16 February 2025, St Mary's made history again when it became Wales' first Minster Church.

Today, this historic building continues to bring people together, and it's fantastic to see it hosting something as special as Gaia.
